If the scene you quoted above is your thing, Blaze, consider his Books of Blood series of anthologies ("We're all books of blood; wherever we're opened, we're read.").



As far as I'm concerned, his magnum opus is the massive Imajica (often published in two volumes). A vast world that serves as the backdrop and the ground for an epic story about three individuals (who love each other in ways they probably shouldn't) caught up in a sinister web of cosmic proportions.



I spent a couple of decades following my readings of Imajica trying to illustrate some of the characters found inside its pages but my mind's eye fails me every time and I can picture those players no better than Barker, also an illustrator, can himself.



I recommend the one-volume trade paperback edition with illustrations by the author.
