Squirrels are plentiful in Montreal, especially the brown, gray, and russet varieties. On "the Mountain" (the natural park overlooking the downtown core), they'll clamber onto your shoulders or hop in your lap to get at a handful of peanuts. They're especially entertaining when you play tug o' war with them over a single cashew nut; they'll bite into the nut and then place their tiny paws against the tip of your thumb for leverage and repeatedly pull with all their might. They have this look in their eyes that says, "Seriously, bro?"

Several years ago, the City forbid the feeding of wildlife on the Mountain (including squirrels, ducks, geese, raccoons, deer, and red foxes) because the animals come to rely on humans as a food source and there are massive die-offs when Montrealers avoid the park over the winter months.
Aimin\' to misbehave.

Seoul says large black squirrels are everywhere in Southern Ontario..

Does Montreal have those kind?

Yeah, there are a few. But they're far less numerous than their fairer-pelted counterparts.

No doubt Scouse would decry this awful miscenegation in the squirrel population.

We used to have a squirrel that would come right to the sliding doors on our deck. We put bread crumbs and nuts out for it. That was seven years ago. We haven't had one that tame since.
