Im expecting another panic buy on meat this weekend.

I will be filling our deep freezer tomorrow when I shop tomorrow.

We still have meat restrictions here, only 2 packs of beef and only 2 packs of chicken. At Walmart I think its limit 1.

Around 1,000 Cargill employees laid off following outbreak of COVID-19 cases: Union



CALGARY -- The union representing workers at the Cargill High River protein facility says around 1,000 employees have been laid off following an outbreak of COVID-19 related cases at the plant.



"We're very disappointed because we're not really hearing from Cargill," said Tom Hesse, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers.



The union said about 2,000 workers are split into a morning and afternoon shift.



As of Monday, 38 employees tested positive for the virus. Union officials said one person has since been hospitalized.



The Canadian Cattleman's Association said about 40 percent of the beef processed in Western Canada comes from the High River plant.

There will probably be rolling shortages of many fresh foods... because of further COVID mutations and biosecurity initiatives...



So we might do without various meats and produce without rhyme or reason and will have to make do with other more readily available things for a few days, weeks, or months...



...here, the supermarkets are relaxing their buying limits on many things including pasta, rice, sugar, and other staples... basically, shelf stable pantry items now that the population panic bought many many months worth of these things...



...but fresh produce and meats took an initial hit... the pendulum will swing on this the other way...



...and then there's consumer items, tech, ink cartridges, webcams, and computer/phone stuff not to mention lithium batteries... a search for anything on our retail websites here turns up "not available" messages.. it could 2-24 months before the manufacturing/supply chain catches up in Asia...assuming that COVID doesn't veer off into dangerous and uncharted waters...



I can see this thing flaring for up to a decade and putting us in a form of evolved Dark Ages...



...and the more prolonged, the more underlying decay surfaces... we're probably in for a rocky ride...
