Trump's administration announced this week that customs officials will detain important merchandise if it's made by companies linked to prison labor in China.

Effective immediately, all garments produced by the Hero Vast Group, which includes a number of companies, will be detained, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced.

The order is based on information that indicates the companies are using prison labor to produce items.

"China's use of forced labor to make goods is illegal and wrong. Their serious human rights abuses cannot stand. DHS remains committed to using every tool available to identify and prevent products made with forced labor from entering the United States," acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Chad Wolf said in a statement.

CBP is an office inside the DHS.

"The use of forced labor is not just a serious human rights issue, but it also brings about unfair competition in our global supply chains. CBP's goal is to ensure that goods made by forced labor never reach U.S. consumers," Brenda Smith, an executive assistant commissioner at CBP, added.

The Trump administration on Aug. 17 announced it will further tighten restrictions on Huawei, aimed at cutting off its access to chips made with U.S. technology.

The commerce department said it has broadened restrictions imposed in May, which sought to prevent the Chinese telecom giant from acquiring semiconductors from global chipmakers made with U.S. technology.

The administration also added 38 Huawei affiliates in 21 countries to its trade blacklist, barring U.S. firms from doing business with them. Adding the new set of firms raises the total number of blocked Huawei affiliates to 152. Huawei and its affiliates were first added to the blacklist in May 2019 on national security grounds.

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross told Fox Business the restrictions introduced in May "led them to do some evasive measures. They were going through third parties...The new rule makes it clear that any use of American software or American fabrication equipment is banned and requires a license."

State Secretary Mike Pompeo said in a statement that the new rule change "will prevent Huawei from circumventing U.S. law through alternative chip production and provision of off-the-shelf chips." He added that "Huawei has continuously tried to evade" U.S. restrictions imposed in May—which do not fully go into effect until Sept. 14.

I can't help but wonder if all these security measures of Donald Trump will be reversed under the pro-China administration of Joe Biden.

I have a feeling the American Democratic Party will try and downplay this as the Liberal Party in Canada has.

China has vested interests in Trump losing. They also have the resources to interfere. It is that simple.

BY BOWEN XIAO August 19, 2020 Updated: August 19, 2020 Print

The biggest foreign threat to election security in the United States is the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), according to director of national intelligence John Ratcliffe.

U.S. intelligence officials have recently warned about Beijing's capability to interfere in the election during hearings with the Senate Intelligence Committee. Last year a number of government agencies named Russia, China, and Iran as actors seeking to interfere in the voting process by influencing voter perceptions.

But Ratcliffe went further in emphasizing the danger posed by Beijing.

"China poses a greater national security threat to the U.S. than any other nation—economically, militarily, and technologically. That includes threats of election influence and interference," Ratcliffe told Fox News in a statement.

Ratcliffe said Beijing is concerned the sitting president will win reelection, adding that the intelligence community has briefed "hundreds of members of Congress" to raise their concerns about China "and its increased efforts to impact the U.S. policy climate in its favor."

The assessment by Ratcliffe follows a series of comments by U.S. intelligence officials making the point that the CCP does not want President Donald Trump to remain in the White House for a second term.
