Up to 70 Percent of KN95 Masks From China Don't Meet US Health Standards, Study Says

Up to 70 percent of KN95 masks imported from China don't meet U.S. health standards and could endanger health care workers and patients, an independent medical product evaluation found.

As the name suggests, KN95 masks should be capable of filtering out 95 percent of hazardous particles in the air. The masks, which aren't officially certified by U.S. authorities, are the Chinese version of the N95 model.

But recent testing determined that among almost 200 KN95 masks imported from China, 60 to 70 percent of them are "significantly inferior" and don't live up to the packaging claims.

The analysis sampled 15 Chinese manufacturers that supply major U.S. hospitals and health systems, according to Pennsylvania-based ECRI, a patient safety advocacy group that released the findings on Sept. 22. The lapse in quality prompted the ECRI to issue a hazard alert (.pdf).

Such alerts are usually reserved for situations when "health care professionals need to be informed immediately," ECRI President and CEO Marcus Schabacker told The Epoch Times in an interview.

ECRI began testing the masks in April at the request of hospitals that have started sourcing from these Chinese suppliers, Schabacker said.

Thousands of manufacturing startups have sprung up in China to serve as conduits for medical supplies—which were in dire shortage in the wake of the pandemic. Chinese KN95 masks have been among the most prevalent goods imported to the United States, the institute said.

There are currently around 35,000 mask suppliers in China, according to Schabacker's estimates.

"We're finding that many aren't safe and effective against the spread of COVID-19," said Schabacker in a statement. He added that health care providers need to "do more due diligence before purchasing masks that aren't made or certified in America."

As a second defect, the Chinese masks ECRI tested all have ear loop straps rather than the head or neck band design that could seal the mask more tightly against the face—as required by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the U.S. federal agency overseeing workplace safety.

The institute suggested that healthcare workers use NIOSH-certified respirators, and only use KN95s or other alternatives as a "last resort." These masks can still offer a higher level of protection than surgical or cloth masks, and might be suitable for medical staff not involved with "high-risk procedures"—such as intubation, suction of airways, or swabbing of patients, Schabacker said.

Do you see why Beijing is so horny to help "elect" their corrupt stooge, Joe Biden.

Senate Report Exposes Dealings Between Biden's Son and Businessmen Connected to Chinese Regime

Robert Hunter Biden, son of former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, made millions of dollars worth of "questionable transactions" with Chinese nationals connected to the Chinese regime and military, according to a new congressional report.

Hunter Biden began developing associations with Chinese nationals beginning in at least 2009, the year he co-founded the U.S. investment and advisory firm Rosemont Seneca Partners. According to the report, these financial connections "accelerated while his father was vice president and continued after he left office."

Joe Biden was vice president during the Obama administration, from 2009 to 2017. He's currently the Democratic Party candidate for the upcoming presidential election in November.

The other founders of Rosemont Seneca Partners were Chris Heinz, the stepson of former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, and Devon Archer, one of Hunter Biden's business partners.

Beijing-Friendly Businessmen

Two Chinese nationals became prominent in Hunter Biden's financial network with China: disgraced Chinese oil tycoon Ye Jianming and Asia-based financier Dong Gongwen. According to the report, Dong was Ye's business associate and executed transactions for Ye's companies.

Hunter Biden made millions from his relationship with Ye and received millions from Dong's companies, the report found.

"Ye and his associates had robust relationships with China's military units, some of which were involved in matters in direct opposition to U.S. policy in the region," the Senate report stated.

Ye founded CEFC China Energy, an oil conglomerate that made billions of dollars in Russia, eastern Europe, and parts of Africa.

It became China's largest privately held oil company before it was caught in Beijing's crosshairs in 2018. Ye was placed under investigation in February 2018 for "suspected economic crimes" and subsequently detained. His current whereabouts remain unknown. A state-owned enterprise took control of CEFC in March 2018.

Transactions With Biden

The new Senate report identified a transaction of "potential criminal financial activity" in August 2017, when CEFC Infrastructure Investment (US) LLC, a subsidiary of CEFC China Energy, sent a payment of $100,000 to Hunter Biden's Washington-based law firm Owasco. It is unclear what the money was for.

Another incident the Senate identified as "potential financial criminal activity" took place in September 2017, when Hunter Biden and Dong opened a line of credit at a bank under a business named Hudson West III LLC.

The credit was made available to Hunter Biden, James Biden, and James Biden's wife Sara Biden. James Biden is Joe Biden's brother.

"The Bidens subsequently used the credit cards they opened to purchase $101,291.46 worth of extravagant items, including airline tickets and multiple items at Apple Inc. stores, pharmacies, hotels, and restaurants," the Senate report stated.

Millions went from CEFC Infrastructure Investment to Hudson West III and then to Owasco. On Aug. 8, 2017, CEFC Infrastructure Investment wired $5 million to Hudson West III's bank account. From Aug. 8, 2017, to Sept. 25, 2018, Hudson West III sent more than $4.79 million in the name of consulting fees to Owasco.

Hudson West III was 1 of 8 numbered Hudson West business entities, and the Senate report found that Dong was connected to seven of them. The report didn't elaborate on the connections, and it's unclear whether Hunter Biden is connected to the other Hudson West firms.

Patrick Ho, a Hong Kong-based businessman who served as secretary-general of a CEFC subsidiary, China Energy Fund Committee, was also Hunter Biden's client at Owasco, according to the Senate report.

Ho is also implicated in CEFC's misdeeds. He was charged by U.S. prosecutors of bribing top officials in Chad and Uganda in exchange for business opportunities for CEFC.

On March 22, 2018, months before Ho was to go on trial, a $1 million payment was sent from Hudson West III to Owasco for Ho's legal representation, the Senate report found.

Ho was sentenced to three years in prison in March 2019 on several charges including money laundering and violating the Foreign Corrupt Practice Act, according to a Department of Justice press release. He was freed in June this year, with the judge shortening his incarceration time after he demonstrated good behavior.

The Senate committees said the financial ties between Hunter Biden, his family, and the Chinese nationals "don't just raise conflicts of interest concerns, they raise criminal financial, counterintelligence, and extortion concerns."

The Joe Biden campaign didn't immediately return a request for comment on the transactions with Chinese individuals.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Sept. 24 sent a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray asking if the agency will investigate certain findings of the report, including Hunter Biden's Chinese transactions involving potential criminal activity.

A Chinese ethics textbook has altered a story from the Bible, twisting its ending to have Jesus stone a woman to death while claiming that he is a "sinner."

The distortion, the latest in a long line of measures by the atheist Chinese Communist Party (CCP) to control and suppress religion in the country, has sparked outrage among Christians with many also calling on the Vatican to reconsider its partnership with the regime.

The textbook in question is entitled "Professional Ethics and the Law" and used in vocational training schools across China. It was approved by the editorial review committee overseen by the regime's ministry of education in 2018, according to ChinaAid, a U.S.-based Christian advocacy group.

It quoted a well-known story from the New Testament, "Jesus and the woman caught in adultery," but instead of citing it faithfully, the textbook upends the conclusion of the parable, casting Jesus as a killer.

In the original passage in the Gospel of John, a group of men interrupts Jesus' teaching session, bringing in a woman accused of adultery. They ask Jesus whether she should be stoned to death as prescribed by Mosaic Law. After first ignoring their interruption, Jesus says that the person who is without sin should throw the first stone. The accusers then leave realizing that no one is without sin. Jesus then turns to the woman and asks if anyone has condemned her, and she answers no. Jesus then says, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more."

The textbook instead subverts the ending to read: "When everyone left, Jesus stoned the woman to death himself, saying, 'I am also a sinner. But if the law could only be enforced by men without blemish, the law would be dead.'"

NYPD Spying Case a 'Wake-Up Call' About Chinese Infiltration in US, Local Tibetans Say

NEW YORK—The arrest of an NYPD officer for allegedly spying on local Tibetans for Beijing should serve as a "wake-up call" for U.S. officials about the depth of Chinese espionage in the country, local Tibetan activists said.

Baimadajie Angwang, an ethnic Tibetan and naturalized U.S. citizen, had worked at the NYPD's 111th Precinct in Queens, and is also an Army reservist holding a "secret" security clearance. The 33-year-old was arrested on Sept. 19 on four charges, including acting as an illegal Chinese agent, and faces up to 55 years prison if convicted.

Angwang's arrest was hardly a surprise to the ethnic Tibetans in New York City who had prior contact with him.

The Tibetan Community of New York and New Jersey (TCNYNJ), a New York-based nonprofit established in 1979, said they first met Angwang in 2019 when he offered to invite other NYPD officers to the organization's Lunar New Year celebration event. Not long after that, Angwang's behavior started raising red flags.

The group, at a Sept. 22 press conference held in Queens, said Angwang's name "doesn't sound like a Tibetan name," so the officer had initially approached them using a different name that was more Tibetan sounding.

While "virtually unknown" in the local Tibetan community until 2018, Angwang had since reached out to the group on "numerous occasions" to "offer service and support," they said in a press release.

..........

Trillions in Debt

Chinese state-run 21st Century Business Herald published on Sept. 27 the results of a study conducted by state-run Nandu Big Data Research Institute.

The Nandu study found that Evergrande needed to pay 395.7 trillion yuan ($58.1 trillion) in debt with interest in the next 12 months. China's second-largest property developer by sales volume, Country Garden, has to pay 105.8 trillion yuan ($15.53 trillion), third-largest Vanke has to pay 96.8 trillion yuan ($14.21 trillion), and fourth-largest Sunac has to pay 140.6 trillion yuan ($20.64 trillion).

The four companies with the largest debts—Evergrande, Sunac, Greenland, and Country Garden, respectively—would have to repay more than 100 trillion yuan ($14.68 trillion) in debt (with interest) within a year.

In total, 76 of the top firms owe more than 2,500 trillion yuan in "interest-bearing liabilities," or about 35 percent of total such liabilities owed by the companies.

Evergrande

Evergrande Group was founded by Xu Jiayin, a businessman from central Henan Province. He established the company in Guangdong Province in 1996.

In 2019, Evergrande slashed the price of condos to promote sales but angered buyers who had paid full price for the properties. Evergrande reportedly hired thugs to beat up people who asked for refunds.

This year, Evergrande's situation is worse due to China's declining economy, exacerbated by the CCP virus pandemic and widespread flooding.

In an attempt to attract more business, on Sept. 7, Evergrande announced a 30 percent discount on all their real estate products until Oct. 8.
