I's a bit mystified. Indigenous Panamanians are dark equator area type folk .. some West Indian from canal work and others mixed .. some mixed Spanish as would be expected



I would expect Spanish mix tends to run the place as per other countries that were under Spanish rule



I have to ask how going there gets one away from dark folk

We are not leaving Canada because of the changing demographics. Winnipeg is now 10% Filipino by the way. We are leaving because this country has been bought by rich international progs. They will stop at nothing to destroy the working middle class way of life. I'm freer in Panama. That and it's expensive here. And of course the weather sucks.

I especially understand as Winnipeg weather is about as undesirable as it gets in both directions



We have lived in tropical climate, almost as close to the equator as Panama and liked it .. till we realized how dangerous it could be in the areas we would like to live in



I suggest to do it as we did .. move there at start of winter so as to gently get used to the temperature gradually (not that Winnipeg can get pretty awful in summer as well as winter. Doing it that way worked well for us and by end of summer we found it quite pleasant



The Phils does not get to bad for heat, low 90s F at worse. I'm not familiar with summer temps in Panama



Having lived in Florida and L.A etc, we find the West BC Coast good for us in semi-retirement .. although housing prices are bad and the island while very desirable in ways is  isolated by water

I was in Southern Taiwan in late January and early February..



The weather in Tainan City was nearly perfect...low to mid twenties..



But for nine months a year the humidity is stifling..



It's a very nice city, but the humidity is too much.

Not that I give a shit where you move to when you retire, but how is Panama freer?

They call the southern tip of Vancouver Island "Canada's South Pacific" and with good reason. The summers are balmy, the winters mild, and the temperature spread minimal.



It's expensive to live here, though. That's definitely a drawback.



You should at least come for a visit, though. I mean, once things settle down, covidly speaking.

I visited Van Island as a young teen. Outrageous prices, tourist trap slash double decker buses galore, and not really a whole lot to see or do for all the effort to take the ferry over.



The ferry ride was the most noteworthy... remnants of a red tide in the strait and a pod of dolphins escorting us for a good portion of the trip.

I'll admit, if you're a teen, there's not much to see that would be a better draw than your iPhone or your own navel.



But adults find the place, especially the setting, quite enchanting. The Butchart Gardens, whale watching tours, Tofino, the West Coast hiking trail, Long Beach, a walk through the last temperate rain forest on Earth, etc., etc.



You should visit again, Dinkies. Then we'll hop back on the ferry and go visit CC, Evs, and Berry in Vancouver.

If there are decent golf courses, I'm sold. I may not be able to make my annual January golf pilgrimage to the Florida panhandle due to COVID. If I cannot, a trip to Southern Van island is a definite possibility.
