Thanks all. 28C, perfect, clear bright and sunny.

BBQ's are sizzling all over the countryside, grilling or roasting lamb in all its forms and glory. Some may be eating roo, but I refrain.

Canada and Australia; traditionally cousins, but more like siblings.

...why is Australia tomorrow, when historically, it was founded as a Dominion on January 1, 1901?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia

QuoteOn 1 January 1901, federation of the colonies was achieved after a decade of planning, consultation and voting.[59] This established the Commonwealth of Australia as a dominion of the British Empire.[60] The Federal Capital Territory (later renamed the Australian Capital Territory) was formed in 1911 as the location for the future federal capital of Canberra. Melbourne was the temporary seat of government from 1901 to 1927 while Canberra was being constructed.[61] The Northern Territory was transferred from the control of the South Australian government to the federal parliament in 1911.

Shouldn't Australia Day be January 1st as well?

Canada was founded as a Dominion on July 1st.

That's also our national holiday - Canada Day.

The United States declared its independence on July 4th.

And that is also its national holiday.

Oh well, I guess them Aussies have a way of doin' things differnt

Australia day is based on when the "first fleet" full of prisoners landed at Botany Bay.

That's when the Australian colony got started.

BTW, July 4th is when the US declared independence from the British crown NOT when we actually achieved it. Much like Australia day the 4th of July, is the start date of our national conscience, it's not the date when our sovereignty became a reality.

Once again you have a simple premise backwards..... WTF is wrong with you? :laugh3:
