Notre-Dame Cathedral spire, roof collapse, engulfed by flames

Notre-Dame Cathedral went up in flames on Monday in a massive blaze that devastated the Parisian landmark, one of France's most visited sites.



Flames that began in the early evening burst quickly through the roof of the centuries-old cathedral and engulfed the spire, which collapsed, followed by the entire roof.



A huge plume of smoke wafted across the city and ash fell over a large area.

However, while there have been several churches damaged badly in France this past week, so far there is nothing to suspect it was deliberate

No doubt, and you can bet they would be accusing people of having done it, and not with any sense of restraint, so would the media.



One of the main reasons I wonder if this was deliberate is because its holy week.  Coincidence?  Dunno

It's incredible that such a structure continued to stand to this day. It is sad to see it burning down but it might be refurbished some more. I've been there to see it. It is absolutely iconic, and sitting beside the River Seine makes for a picture perfect postcard or photo souvenir.
