Damn.

No wonder nothing gets done, then.

About 3 years ago, the Government announced that Australia would be building submarines in Adelaide, under the management of a French shipbuilder who builds the French naval submarines. $50 billion would be spent on the new fleet. Thousands of new jobs. New technologies would be developed. Adelaide will become the naval shipbuilding centre of Australia.

Guess how many submarines have been built so far?

There is no one to vote for at the upcoming elections.

As opposed to previous elections?

What's the definition of insanity?

Doing the same thing repeatedly in the expectation that the result will somehow change.

We keep voting, they keep screwing the country up. See the pattern.

STOP VOTING.

Odinson

Maybe its like the reichstag fire.

Yellow vests did it..

Anyhow, Macrons actions with this will guarantee him a 2nd term.

I didn't vote in the advance polls for our provincial election and I'm undecided if I will vote tomorrow on election day.

Quote from: "seoulbro"I will never see Notre Dame now.

Its not like it was in its original form..

It has been vandalized, restored, renovated before.

And all great buildings have been burned down at least once in their history..

You just got to experience one of those times.

Consider yourself fortunate.

Quote from: "Bricktop"It appears that the fire was confined to the area above the chancel, communion table, altar and pews. Sadly, that is still a major disaster, but the frontage appears to have been largely untouched.

The spire after all was less than 2 centuries old.  I've heard that most of the stonework has survived, and the butresses held and the walls are mostly okay.  There is all the art, the frescoes, the roof and framing, the decor, the  << choke >> stained glass and statuary, but we probably aren't seeing anything close to a total loss.

No workers there and Church closed at time of the fire? Hmm

Quote from: "@realAzhyaAryola"Hm, could very well be an act of war on Christianity but I will not assume because there has been no evidence or proof.
It would be wrong to assume that of course.

But it is not wrong at all to be suspicious of the possibility-- here are some good reasons--

1. The fire took place during holy week.

2. No workers were there today and the church was closed.

3. ISIS tried to blow up a car outside the church in 2016.

4. Vandalism and desecration of french churches (and synagogues) has been on the rise.

I say we blame islam now. No conclusive evidence needed.

It would seem there is sufficient stonework remaining to rebuild upon.

But those windows were staggeringly beautiful works of art. I must see if I can dig my old photos out.

That would be nice.

It took 45 minutes for the fire department to show up even though there are 2 stations in walking distance from the Notre Dame..

This happened because the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo has crippled the city´s traffic system in favour of bicycles and walking..

Emergency services takes precedence over feel good bike lanes.
