Trudeau's 'privilege' no excuse

Progressives' hero has turned out to be a shallow frat boy

Individual Liberal candidates have begun rallying around their leader, Aladdin Trudeau.

That was to be expected. Their success in 2015, and any chance they have of repeating it this election, is intertwined with the Trudeau brand.

They have to protect him. He's their electoral meal ticket.

Besides, it's too late in the campaign to find a replacement. It's Trudeau or bust, so the Libs are going all-in for their guy.

More or less, Liberal MPS are saying that the genie who wore blackface and a turban in the now infamous 2001 photos from a private school fundraiser is not the same person they have worked with these past four years in government.

Justin Trudeau almost certainly is not a closet racist. I accept that.

What I think, is that these photos (and others from at least two separate blackface incidents) prove that Trudeau is a fool and a phoney, a cardboard cutout of a leader. He is the embodiment of political correctness.

Whatever is fashionable with "progressives" at the moment, that is what Trudeau supports. If that changes tomorrow, he readily changes with it. That is not because he is devious or conniving or even driven by opinion polls. Rather, it is because he has formed very few timeless values of his own.

Blackface was controversial enough even in 2001 that a 29-year-old teacher at a ritzy private school should have known better. But that brings up another Trudeau flaw: He believes the laws, rules and behavioural standards everyone else must abide by do not apply to him.

His wealth, good looks and famous last name exempt him from the standards that apply to mere mortals.

Trudeau even tried to use this attitude to drum up some sympathy this week.

On more than one occasion he explained away his shameful costume by pleading (and I'm paraphrasing here): Pity me, I was born too rich and grew up shielded by too many "layers of privilege."

That is poppycock. You can't be so privileged you don't understand the insensitivity of blackface. (Although you can be so privileged that you believe you can get away with it.)

Even the "privilege" explanation is an attempt to display his "progressive" credentials. In recent years, the charge against white people is that they have been so isolated by "white privilege" that they could not possibly understand the plight of blacks, Indigenous persons or other minorities.

Now here is Trudeau baring his politically correct soul by confessing to his own privileged blindness. Even in an act of overt racism, he has found a way to partly excuse his own actions.

Another excuse I have heard – mostly from Liberals, I am assuming – is that this was only a costume party, "like Halloween."

Really!? Would you feel the same about a guest who showed up at a Conservative candidate's shindig in a sheet and a hood? Or in a Nazi uniform complete with swastikas?

Another excuse I've seen is that Trudeau is a product of Quebecois culture where blackface doesn't carry the same stigma.

If this claim about Quebec is true, we can begin by asking why it is that Quebecers feel justified in not being appalled by blackface? And how do they would get to decide that instead of the people of colour that blackface mocks?

If "progressives" are going to carve out a Quebec exemption to cover off their boy Justin's behaviour, they also have to carve out an Mississippi exemption for people who are the product of southern U.S. culture where flying the Confederate flag doesn't carry the same stigma.

I get progressives' frustration. Their hero – the man who embodies all their ideals – turned out to be a shallow frat boy, so now they are scrambling to preserve their moral standing by defending the indefensible.

The only pm found guilty of ethics violations and he did it twice. An unqualified pathological liar and corrupt to his very core. But, he will be reelected. :2r4ml1j_th:

PM'S political career should be over

It's been a turbulent few days for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. And to make matters worse for the Liberal Party leader, he can't seem to keep his story straight.

Canadians learned our diversity-promoting, politically correct-obsessed prime minister had the poor judgement to paint his skin black to impersonate people from other races.

He did it on several occasions. It seems like he's something of a "blackface" enthusiast.

On Wednesday night, after Time Magazine published the story of the first incident of "blackface," Trudeau came clean. He admitted that, as a teacher at West Point Grey Academy in Vancouver, he painted his face, neck and hands black and wore a turban to make himself look Arab. He was 29-years old at the time.

Trudeau scored points, some claimed, because he proactively admitted it was the second time he'd done the "blackface" schtick.

"When I was in high school, I dressed up... with makeup on" he said.

"Makeup" is the new Liberal euphemism for "blackface."

A few moments later, CTV published the photo from Trudeau's high school yearbook. There he was, Afro and all.

Just as some Liberals began heralding Trudeau for his honesty and maturity in admitting and apologizing for his worst mistakes, we learned there were plenty more skeletons in this man's closet.

Trudeau's heartfelt apology on Wednesday night was not the "learning moment" he had claimed. He hadn't fully come clean. On Thursday, Global News released a video of Trudeau, again in "blackface," this time dancing around like a racist fool.

And so, on Thursday afternoon, Trudeau did the whole song and dance again. He marched out in front of reporters and apologized, again. This time, he blamed it all on his "privilege" and a supposed bubble that famous, rich, white Liberal men apparently live in.

Trudeau's apology didn't add up.

When asked why these incidents of racism were not flagged when Trudeau first ran for office for the Liberals, he said he never disclosed them. He was too embarrassed of his of own stupidity.

A few minutes later, however, a reporter asked how many times he had dressed up in "blackface" over the years. Trudeau didn't give a number. He said he couldn't remember how many times because he never thought it was a big deal.

So which is it? Was playing "blackface" so normal to him that he lost track of how many times he did it? Or was he so embarrassed by his "blackface" episodes that he chose to omit the truth, first to the Liberal Party of Canada and then to all Canadians?

When did he have his change of heart— from wearing "blackface" without realizing it was wrong, to feeling so embarrassed about it that he lied to everyone?

Trudeau wore "blackface" to a ritzy gala in 2001. By 2003, he was a star in the Liberal Party and given the honour of hosting a tribute to outgoing Liberal Prime Minister Jean Chretien at the Liberal convention.

In 2006, he was named a chair of the Liberal youth wing, in 2007 he became a Liberal candidate and in 2008 he was elected to Parliament.

At what point in those few years did Trudeau finally realize that painting your skin black and mimicking American racists from the 1950s was not appropriate in the 2000s?

Justin Trudeau's political career should be over. Given Trudeau's history, however, it may take him a few decades to figure that out.

I did not know what that word meant until recently.

Yet another idea that doesn't seem to have occurred to [Justin Trudeau] until just after somebody at Time hit publish: if everyone who is going to be standing for office needs to demonstrate that they've been perfect every step of their lives, there's going to be a shortage of people running for office.

So no one is even a little bit excited that we have Canada's first black Prime Minister?

f David Tilson, the current oldest Member of Parliament in Canada (born 1941), had a picture surface of him in blackface at age 18 (year 1959), THAT WOULD NOT BE OKAY.

The (hopefully former) Prime Minister was 29 and it was the year 2001!

I don't mean to tell anyone how to vote, but I am implying that if you can still vote Liberal at this point, you are not only condoning Trudeau's multiple ethics infractions, but you are actually condoning racism.

Are you a racist?

Do you comprehend ethics?
