We will keep DST, and the provincial government now has a mandate to negotiate removing equalization.

By a 'no' vote of 50.1 per cent, more than 535,000 Albertans voted to not scrap Daylight Saving Time. The vote had a differential margin of 2,834.

When it comes to if the Alberta government should ask the federal government to remove Section 36(2) of the Constitution Act, 1982 — it was a resounding 'yes'.

With more than 640,000 Albertans — 61.7 per cent —voting in favour of the question. Just under 400,000 Albertans voted 'no.'

That is a good result. Let's see what Jason Kenney does with it. But, I read it's all but guaranteed at this point anyway that the NDP will ride the anti-Kenney vote back to power. They backed the no side. Trudeau will stall Kenney until the next Alberta election.

The Kenney government will ratify the results later today in the legislature and table an amendment to the constitution.

True Dope doesn't care about constitutional law or the will of the people. He will ignore this and when the No Democracy Party is back in power, it's dead.

I see your new woke mayor in Calgary announced her first priority is not getting Calgarians back to work, but declaring climate change an emergency. Oh yeah, she says she wants to move Calgary past oil and gas. Your husband must be so reassured by that. Fuck, Calgarians must miss Nenshi already.

I had no idea how extreme Mayor Gondek was until she won the mayoral race..

This is going to be a long four years and probably much longer than that.

Alberta would get some help if BC and Saskatchewan also held similar referendums. They pay more than they receive too.

If the same referendum was held in Saskatchewan, the yes side would get over seventy percent of the vote. I like old Jason Kenney's policies, but he is a really unlikable guy.

I would vote to ditch DST. I can't figure out how to set the time in my car.

This also highlights the folly of "democracy".

Slightly more than 50% say one thing, slightly less say another, and so they feel disappointed. Perhaps resentful. Perhaps angry...and so the downward spiral continues.

I like direct democracy, I'm glad Alberta held these referendums including the one on flouride in the water in Calgary.

Bricktop

The problem with direct democracy is that Governments only use it for minor and irrelevant issues. Direct democracy as applied in the West gives you no control over government powers, budget proposals, major expenditures, selection and dismissal of Ministers, the power to dismiss MP's or any other major action of government. Governments of all colours hate referendums because they take away their powers. But they'll feed the electorate breadcrumb referenda just to maintain the illusion that we live in a "democracy".

Our referendum on equalization was a major issue. However, True Dope won't honour the results.

Switzerland has held referendums on major issues.

Switzerland is an example of a higher level of direct voter democracy. Probably the only one. But it has a downside; "Direct democracy has a curious effect on voter turnout – it seems the more of a voice people have, the less often they turn out to vote."

Meaning fewer people can control government decisions that effect all.

Does Switzerland have low voter turnout for referenda? This is the first I heard that.

Congrtulations Alberta for the strong message you sent to Ottawa.
