I heard a theory that went something like this -



At the time of the 'Big Bang' the universe existed in a single point. This was called 'singularity' and caused the great explosion which began the expansion of the universe and all the matter within it. This is also the point when time begins. The universe will keep expanding until it reaches a threshold and then it will begin contracting until it is once again at the point of singularity where the Big Bang happens again and time begins anew.



Hopefully the next time around is the one where I win the lottery.

When the kinetic energy of the explosion dissipates to less than the gravitational pull of the center, the whole thing will contract back in upon itself, accelerating rapidly at the end until it all crashes back into a tiny singularity, which will exist for a moment, then explode back outwards again.

Flat earth vs. globe earth is a strange argument since the proof is simple.



Hypothesis: The earth has a shape.



Experiment: Take a ship (any vessel will do really). Sail it in a straight line. See where you end up. Record results.



This experiment has been done many many times before and the results are recorded. They were recorded long before NASA existed in days where knowing where you were regularly meant the difference between life and death. I am satisfied with the results.



Also gravity.



Though as I've said before, it is a matter of relative scale. On a small scale that is relevant to an individual human most of the time, the earth is flat (sort of - if you're going to play this game, it's not flat at all what with mountains and valleys and such, but you know what I mean), on a macro scale it is not. Thus, one can effectively argue that it is both flat and a globe depending on the applied context.

As an artist, perspective lines play a lot on me. Like, if the Sun is SO far away, the the light source would illuminate straight down. Not at angles like this.... as if the Sun was close.

Did you ever ask why the sky is blue in the day time and get a proper answer?



Refraction is particularly affected by cloud cover. That is why the angles in your images are not consistent between events as they would be if the reason for the phenomenon was that the sun was close.

east to west or west to east will give the same result.... i want to see a tightly observed, extremely monitored and successful north to south circumnavigation.... i'm not being difficult.... i'm just highly skeptical....

its just as equally possible with different heights of the clouds.... as i'm sure you already know....

As well as thickness, vapor density, temperature, pressure... yes.



I am not offering refraction as a proof that the Sun is far away, but as an explanation for why this observed phenomenon is not a proof that it is close.

I suppose the test of your hypothesis would be to circumnavigate Antarctica at a fixed speed and see how long it took.
