The 6 day/24 hour period of creation did not happen from an earth perspective. The original Hebrew reads something like "And there was order from disorder, the X day". The sun wasnt even visible until "day 4". This should be enough to prove to anyone that the Genesis account is speaking about ages, not 24 hour periods.

I don't believe its billions of years old at all. I think we dont yet properly understand the full scope of existence and reality.
I've seen door knobs carbon dated as billions of years old and soft dinosaur tissue dated both billions of years old and a few thousand years old.
I really dont think science has found an accurate and reliable way of measuring age on that scale.
I'm not afraid of science at all.
Also no one should ever ground their faith into things they think they know about life and the universe. A faith not firmly rooted on Christ isnt any redeeming or saving faith. Everything we think we know is just one discovery away from crumbling.

Radio carbon dating is affected by pressure and heat. Its hard to account for that influence over thousands of years. However, there have been enough consistent tests coupled with observing geological strata and how long it would take for all the fossils to be laid down to convince me that billions of years have passed since the earth was formed. God is outside of the spatial time of the universe. The speed and the expansion of the universe dilates time. Schroeder's calculations conclude that 13 to 15 billion years experienced on earth would appear more like a week outside of space and time. Astronauts have experienced time dilation due to the affects of speed they experience while in space.
