George Washington University completed the name change of its moniker/team name after a long search to replace its nickname, the "Colonials," which some students found offensive.



The private Washington, D.C., school has received backlash since at least 2019 from some of its student body, when students started a petition for a name change because Colonials was found to be "extremely offensive by not only students of the university, but the nation and world at large."



The school announced in summer 2022 that it would officially begin to discontinue the use of the name after nearly 100 years with the moniker. The George Washington University Colonials officially became the "Revolutionaries" with a May 24, 2023, special announcement on the school's news site.

As Target deals with a boycott after featuring pro-LBGT clothing for children, some prominent conservatives on social media are targeting another company for its clothes.



North Face, the maker of jackets and hiking clothing, launched a campaign with a drag queen for its "Summer of Pride" ad blitz.



In a post, a drag queen says he's a "real-life homosexual" and is here "with the North Face to help you out," drawing a bevy of negative reactions on Twitter and other social media platforms.



Some also noted that the clothing company is selling "Pride Collection" clothes for children.

The outlook of Americans towards their retirement plans has worsened over the past year according to a recent Gallup poll, with concerns about rising prices and recession sapping away optimism.



The expectations of non-retired Americans for a comfortable retirement are now at their "most pessimistic" level since 2012, falling by 10 percentage points since 2021, said a May 25 survey report. Only 43 percent of respondents now expect to comfortably live during retirement, down from 48 percent in 2022 and 57 percent in 2019 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2002 when the poll began, 59 percent of non-retirees expected to live comfortably post-retirement.

AAA is projecting that 37.1 million people will be driving at least 50 miles this upcoming Memorial Day weekend. That's 2 million more people traveling by automobile compared to last year.

The city of Chicago opened all 22 area beaches on Friday morning. However, one of the busiest beaches was closed only hours after opening because gunshots rang out.



Chicago's North Avenue Beach opened at 11 a.m. on Friday. Police responded to several shots fired around 1:26 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Lake Shore Drive at the North Avenue Beach.



Video shows two groups of teens angrily confronting each other before gunshots erupt. There were approximately 100 people in the area when the shooting occurred. Video shows the windows of a Chicago Park District truck shot out.



The North Avenue Beach was immediately closed, as was the nearby bike path.
