Gabriele Kerner is a German singer known as Nena. This song came out originally in German, but an English version was released. I read that the band was unhappy with the English version because it was not a literal translation. They did not want to be seen as a protest band.  Regardless, Nena is the biggest selling German artist of all time. I prefer the German version more, although I can't understand a word she's singin'.  Here are both versions:

The name of the band sounded familiar, but I have no recollection of ever hearing any of their stuff. I looked 'em up and they're still in business.  The "Y&T" stands for "Yesterday and Today."

I got to see them in concert at The Pomona Valley Auditorium (California) back in 1986. It was a 1 screen theater turned into a small concert venue. The front half of the seating was removed for a mosh pit/dance floor. It was fuckin EPIC!!!!
