Quote from: "iron horse jockey"There's an old food truck in Kenora that sells fresh pickerel caught from Lake of the Woods with handcut fries. It is mouthwatering.

I find fresh water fish to have a stronger taste and aroma.

I find this to be true too. Never eat fresh water fish. Makes me think of Tilapia, Carp, catfish.

Do you like colder water fresh water fish like speckled trout, Arctic char or white fish?

I've eaten trout many times. Char or white fish no.

What kind of trout Twenty Dollars?

I don't like rainbow trout.

I think it was rainbow trout. My grand father was obsessed with trout fishing. He could sit there for hours doing it. On a rock, working a stream or on a boat.

If he was on a rock, it was shallow water which means it would have been rainbow trout..

People on acreages with ponds stock them with rainbow trout because they are one of the few game fish that can survive in them.

Another way to live off the land. I'd love to have a veg garden here, but there are too many critters.I do have a beautiful yard, but not much edible. I'll post some photos some time

People don't stock ponds with rainbow to live off the land. A catch and release hobby.

Why? Wouldn't the trout reproduce?

They do and that's the point.

The reason people stock ponds and lakes with trout is for sport fishing. Trout are closely related to salmon and are among the few freshwater game fish that will breed in an artificial environment. Bass, perch, blue gills, etc generally don't do well in captivity.

Yes, it's only sport fishing.

I'm a tad surprised. Would it hurt to kill one or two for food?

I am sure some people do, but that is not why they stock ponds with rainbow trout.

This was the last trout I caught. About a year ago on the Big Hole River in Mont. Let him go.

Thanks Fashonista. I did end up buying a kilo of dorado from the fish guy. Going to cut in in half. Freeze half and blacken it. I'll try to remember to take a photo. Blackening was DSM recommendation for the wahoo I has last week. Was damned good. Thanks for the recipe.

My blackened dorado was really tasty, although I didn't really have an iron skillet to cook it in.

In Hawaii they call it Mahi Mahi. Here it's called Dorado. They are beautiful. Their  color is brilliant. But fades fast after killing. Sad, but awesome eating. Also known as dolphin fish.
