"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and rapidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of shit by the clean end."

I have to say, this is one of the best definitions of a term I have seen to date.
Beware of Gaslighters!

1.  Noam Chomsky says that the prevalence of PC is exaggerated:

QuoteDismissing campus speech codes and political correctness as "an exaggeration" and "a marginal phenomenon," Chomsky claims that state and corporate control over speech is a much more prevalent and dangerous phenomenon -- citing his own career as an example.

2.  I looked for an essay by Chomsky, I read one years ago, in which he describes how PC doesn't really exist but its presence is exaggerated by media as distraction to real problems.  This is not Chomsky, but a similar point of view:

"The Propaganda Function of Political Correctness" by Phil Dickens, 2009:

QuoteMy intention is to show that PC, as described by its opponents, does not exist. It is a myth conjured up by the reactionary right. But more importantly, I wish to show that the imaginary malaise of "PC gone mad" is actually just another form of right-wing flak, serving a very specific propaganda function.

So Ro, which exactly is the clean end of a piece of shit?  I'm dying to know.

I wouldn't know. Ask cc, the forum pc police. :)

RW

But she's not the one holding the PC poopie bag.

I once found a letter from Noam Chomsky to my dad in his pile of papers.  I thought it was pretty trippy.

You're holding it for her!

Quote from: "cc la femme"I just noticed this section.

I want to throw  this out for thought

Use of the word "retard" (and other comparable words) stops me cold every time I see or hear it / them, always has, always will. To me it misuses a dreadful conditions that are not the fault of people who have the condition

Seems to me not right to use it.  That's me, may not be others

I'm very sensitive on use of ANY words that in effect make fun of ANY condition that is not voluntary

From a practical perspective, it does not do justice to what has become a truly admirable forum / site

My 2 bits worth

Quote from: "RW"Point taken.  Let's update it slightly :)

RW

She wasn't the only one who took issue with it.  You realise that right?

And one example doesn't negate your boat load.

:)
Beware of Gaslighters!

What boat load?

Why are Odi and Mel not allowed on the main forum?

RW

Come on Ro.  Don't play dumb.

Odi and Mel are up in RR because they are distruptive trolls and we actually moderate that type of thing here.

Got a problem with that?
Beware of Gaslighters!

Romero

Nope! I just wanted to point out another example of your political correctness.

Funny how the people who complain the most about political correctness are the most politically correct of all!

Only a few weeks ago, Romero was a mod, no?

Why ask a question he should already know the answer to?

Trolling, Romero??
