Really?  What about Panda Elvis?

He's no revolutionary. He's a spoiled brat living off an inheritance. There's blood on his hands, but no dirt under his finger nails.

reel

Fair point.  I think there will be others though.

I saw a picture of Stalin in this thread. My baba used to tell me the story when I was a kid about how she fled the Ukraine with her family to present day Hungary. Life under Stalin was not fun.

No definite article.  It's a country, not a region or Soviet republic.

Sorry.  Reflex.  I know quite a few Ukrainian nationalists.

Are they rednecks?

Mostly intelligentsia - nuclear physicists and a polisci writer.

So, they didn't offer you a mason jar of barrel wash?

reel

No.  :(

I've had that fermented apricot stuff a few times though.  I forget what it's called, but they sell it out of big barrels on the street.

Another communist megalomaniac? Don't see it happening. Nationalists with socialist tendencies like Chavez, but someone like Mao again?

BTW, I admired baby Kim's grandpa. I don't mean his extremist Western ideology, but his courage in fighting the Japanese.

I'm Ukrainian Canadian born and raised in Saskatchewan. I've been to the ancestral homeland, but I don't speak Ukrainian. Is it nastoyanka they were selling.

reel

No, I think it might have been Kvass?  Which it turns out has nothing to do with apricots.  And is possibly non-alcoholic.

Yup.  It was this:

I've been half lit and had no idea what was going on both times I've been there.  Wife is Russian Ukrainian.

I've had that. Not with apricots though.

I was mistaken about the apricots.  I make that relation because it's fizzy, frothy and makes you hiccup, just like the apricot juice Mikhail Alexandrovich Berlioz drinks before he is decapitated by the tram car.

My capacity to remember strange fizzy Russian drinks is limited.

My capacity to remember anything is limited when I am shit faced. At least that's what I tell the judge the next day when he asks for an explanation for putting someone in the hospital the night before.

reel

My goodness.

I tend to build and/or repair random things when I'm really drunk.  Sometimes it works really well.  Other times it makes things much worse.  Can't say I've ever been inclined to put someone in hospital though.
