There is a ton of history, but we can start with this - Fleetwood Mac was formed in 1967 by Peter Green. It was Green who named his band "Fleetwood Mac", which was derived from the names of drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie.  Interestingly, Green left his band in 1970, while Fleetwood and McVie remain with the band to this day.  Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham didn't get onboard until 1967.
