So now Bangladeshi's are exploited. And the rorting goes on... I have no respect for this behaviour.

The idea is that employment will rise, wages will follow and governments will invest in infrastructure and education..

This is the model that turned Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong into first world societies..

It does work if a country is really committed to developing..

I'm not sure that is the case with Bangladesh though.

You might think it's bad, but capitalism has increase China's national minimum wage by at least 15x since the past 20 years.  For most Chinese manufacturers heavily back up by labours, on average 90% of the revenue goes to the workers and expense.

That's why China has increasingly been priced out of a number of sectors by those in Asia Minor. The newer Chinese middle class and kids have higher options.

Shoes and textiles being two of those areas.

There are two Chinas... the ruling elite state capitalist class and then there is the down trodden communist working class living in abject poverty and squalor breathing filthy air or dying in mines because the ruling class do not care about the workers.

I stronglyl concur, even though the economy is slowing down, a huge group of middle class have been borned since the past decade.

I fully concur, even though the economy has been slowing, at least a very large group of middle class has already been developed.

The problem Caskur is you're cherry picking the 2 most extreme which has little to nothing to do with each other or bringing up the subject about the poor that is cause by socialist/communist issues that ruin the whole country, I mean just look at Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, this is what capitalism is all about, communist rule have halted the development of the middle and upper class in China and North Korea for almost half a century.  But since they opened their market to FDI villages have turned into megatropolis in less than 20 years, meanwhile China has built Rome every to months like the West says.

When my dad moved his factory from Hong Kong to mainland China about 40 years ago, he notice his workers had trouble adapting to a new enviroment since China's condition was no better than rural Africa during that time, workers leaving garbage and not putting tools back where they belong, and ppl sleeping on the factory floor despite he built a dorm if anyone need to sleep in it or couldn't afford rent in the city.  But things has change over the past decade, whether it's good or not, all it matters is the living standards/quality of the people have improve drastically.

Is there any reason why China can't organize their own healthy baby formula? Looks like poor ol' Chinese mums in China don't trust their baby formula and have to buy it at astronimical inflated prices from their black market.

Quote from: "caskur"You guys are in Lalaland about China... sad really.

No, we just know a lot more  about that country than you do..

I am Taiwanese, so I am hardly a China apologist  by the way

The baby formula scandal is ten years old now and today the same brands that are available in North America.

caskur

It's not 10 years old... they're still doing it.

See, you guys need to catch up. Don't worry, I'll fill you in about what's going on in ol' mainland China. I don't have rose coloured glasses on.

It actually is ten years old..

A lot has happened since then....companies that have jeopardized public safety have had senior staff imprisoned or worse..

Companies that disregarded safety have lost licenses and production lines discontinued..

Today at a Walmart in China you will see the same formula brands as you would at a Walmart in the USA.

Why would someone in Australia who has no connection to China give two shits about a product safety scandal in the past in China? Unless of course they are thinking of moving there and getting knocked up by a Chinese bloke.

Because globally I care about the downtrodden...

I do care for my country firstly though of course.

But badly run countries tend to cause their citizens to flee to better run countries and that in itself causes HUGE problems for us too.. get it now?

If you think China is the one of the main downtrodden countries in the world, you haven't been to many countries. And China's share of immigrants to this country has been dropping as living standards there improve. Ironically, it's the wealthy in Chinese who are trying to get their money out and to places like  Canada. India, Pakistan, and the Philippines supply more immigrants than China now.
