Russia is a big complex country. People can't look at it through an Anglo/Western lens.

Putin's party, United Russia as has been explained before by other people is a moderately nationalistic political party typical of other similar parties in Eastern Europe. It's considered extremist to Starmer, Trudeau and Harris, but not to Russians, Ukrainians, Georgians, and maybe Poles, Czechs and Hungarians too.

They also have a lot of oil for cheap, especially after The US blew up the Nordstream pipeline.

Meanwhile, in other news, an uptick of caffeine in my diet has led to a series of naturally occurring explosions in my natural gas pipeline. Which, as I am sure you will hasten to tell me, does indeed carry things other than natural gas.

And interestingly enough, given how warm it is out this way, this has resulted in trace elements of bumsweat of a decidedly oily nature.

This too likely makes a world of difference to someone, somewhere.

Yeah "moderately Nationalistic" is a good description. Putin embraces traditional values but isn't particularly against non-White immigration. He uses Mongols and Chechens etc as fodder in wars, which is part of the reason why Russia has a reputation for having an almost unlimited supply of meat for the grinder.
