Phantom Planet is an alt-rock band known primarily for "California", which became the theme song for The O.C., a TV series I've never seen. They also did this cover of a Jackson Browne number that appeared on the soundtrack of Not Another Teen Movie.  Interestingly, Browne wrote the song for the Fast Times At Ridgemont High movie soundtrack.  Here's Phantom Planet's cover:

Here's another Pat Boone cover fer ya!  This went all the way to #1 in 1961.  It was also on the soundtrack to The Last Boy Scout starring Bruce Willis, released in 1991. Chase Webster did the original:

Here is the 2nd cover I've posted in as many days of ZZ Top's masterpiece "Just Got Paid".  This is Gov't Mule, a Southern rock jam band formed in 1994 by guitarist Warren Haynes, bassist Allen Woody of The Allman Brothers Band and drummer Matt Abts, whom Haynes had worked with in the Dickey Betts Band.  I haven't listened to much Mule, but they're damn good and are one of those bands you wanna see live:
