Is your old man a grand daddy?

Yip, a total of 3 grand kids constantly driving my eldest brother and my sister in law insane, lol.

Lucky grandkids. Grand daddy is a multi millionaire.

Yea, though life is like a crazy roller coaster ride for them lol.  During the weekend lunch/dinner with my dad they always go to the toy store, eventually all the toys in their home have a really big pile reaching up to the ceiling, then my brother and his wife sign them up for a swim team 5x a week, English classes, fencing class, drawing class, piano class, soccer club, ballet class, and any other activities to discipline their minds, and all video game is prohibited in their home, simply it's like heaven and hell back and forth, lol.

Some parents in Israel have excessive extra curricular activities for their kids too.

Israel reminds me of Hong Kong too, I'm sure both of these 2 states have a lot more than I can think of atm, both very small and resource limited, fighting against the odds, whether it's military conflict or political/socially(hk), quite wealthy compared to their neighbours, Jews are praised for being smartest in the West and HK scored the highest IQ test in the East, etc.

Israel has similarities with the East. Competition for prized university openings is fierce.

I dont understand why people do this?  The constant overdoing it with all the activities? (I did this actually when my kid was smaller)  honestly, she got annoyed with it and it was too much for me to be driving everywhere...its just way too much.  It actually overstimulated her and caused problems.

Im not sure how Asian people do it? The constant pushing thier kids with homework, tutoring and endless activities?  I know some of those kids absolutely hate it.  Forcing a child to do all of this is not good, especially if they dont want to do it or have no passion for it.   Many of them dont speak up but continue to do as their parents request.  Maybe its a cultural thing?   I wish a lot of parents would back off and get it out of their head, their child is not a special or a prodigy, and not everyone is going to grow up to be a CEO, doctor, lawyer or some other big fake dream that doesnt belong to them, but their child only.

Im not specifically piinting out Asians, but any parents in general.  I do however find Asian parents to be pushy with the grade thing tho.

Like you say it's more of a cultural issue/problem in Asia, rooted in the society, especially among Orientals mainly b/c of the huge population, human resources can never be any cheaper and the only way to survive in their society's intense competition madness is by education and self improvement.

But yea I agree it's some what out of control, the kids their are already not strong like the White or Black kids, but their teachers assign so many text books in school for them to bring home it's causing their spines to deform.  Then it's fighting to get top marks to get into a well known high school and university, another issue at least in Hong Kong is the education board still uses the elite system created by the British, simply is a pyramid system where there's only this much number of slots for the students to advance into the next grade, and only 7 universities in HK with a population of 8 million.

Brother, I aint knocking it. And if it produces great kids, don't mess with something that works.I am just saying I don't want to take away a kids time just to be kids. And when I was a kid I would have been ditching a lot of those after school classes.

Sometimes I don't blame those parents when reality can be harsh in HK, they just introduce min wage in HK a few years ago, think it's now $6 CAD an hour, yet rent if iirc is around $6000CAD each month for a 800sq ft unit.

But I agree even if life there can be hard, at least the parents could give teh child a moment to breath once or twice in a while, I've tried to tell my brother but he keep saying White ppl here in North America give their kids too much freedom, time is money(can't remember how many times he had said this on the phone), etc, to ppl of Asia, everyone's blood, sweat and tears means nothing to them.  ac_unsure

I heard how high housing costs are in Hong Kong.

Those rents make Tel Aviv seem reasonably priced.

I forgot about the population...that makes sense then...and then they move to west and keep up with the culture.

I use to have some of this old fashioned thinking when my kid was little but over the years, I have had a chance to see the public school system and how much life has changed since I was her age....its drastically different.  The entire system as a whole (public school, health/mental health, legal/court) is a complete and total joke.  Everyone is competing for stupid shit.

What they teach kids in school today is garbage.  You have to see it to believe it.  All these school supplies they expect you to buy and they use none of it, cause they dont do anything.  The math is just stupid, its not even math, its shit for bitches.  My kid has been to 2 different schools, ive had meetings and questioned the teachers, principals and councillors what the fuck are they doing?  No one can give me an answer! I feel surrounded by a bunch of morons who run the schools.  I was so fed up with some of the ridiculous homework my kid was coming home with, Id write on the sheet, "the fuck kinda work is this?"

I pulled my kid from public school.  No more of that shit.  Shes so fuckin bored at school she was getting into fist fights for entertainment.  She was coming home with bruises and scratches....and no one called home to tell me what was going on!!  I questioned them about this too and they lied right to my face.

This world is fucked I tell ya...

I'm not surprised if Korea is the same too, judging from how crazy SK dominate the heavy and tech industry to pop culture and other entertainment, while HK is simply a entrepreneur/business hub, only work super hard and play super hard lifestyle can sustain these kind of societies, lol.

I haven't been to school in a long time so I can't really tell what exactly they are learning, but I heard things are harder now since they've removed grade 13 about 20 years ago, or did they lower their standards?  I'm not too sure how old LO is, but if things are the same as they were before, she might need to get in gear before she goes into high school, as things can get really hard once she enters grade 11 and 12, I can't remember exactly but she'll start learning that trigonometric crap with all teh sin, cos and tan in calculus and centrifugal force calculations in physics, while geometry is even worst.

About LO getting into a fight in school is something that is bound to happen to most students, but if you have the chance I'd strongly recommend taking her to good martial arts school, not just for self defense, but to train a person's mind unbreakable fortress, not saying her mind isn't but it'll help her know when to defend herself and when to hold back from fighting, as to nearly all MA fighter's most important key philosophy is preventing themselves from getting into a fight and understand what kind of fight is justified.  I know I sound stupid saying this b/c I'm no disciplined person but this is not from my experience, but my from my brother's knowledge.

Public school is fuckin useless.  Im not even sure if half of the parents actually look at the work their kids are given? Its a fuckin joke.  Middle school and work for kids in grade 2...no joke.  The education is useless, the only kids that benefit from anything are the cocksucking parents on the PAC board, like its literally pathetic...I even told everyone I talked to in the school that...yeah they dont like me very much for being honest.  Its all about status and paycheques and I refuse to have my kid around total garbage like that.  Why you getting a paycheque if you are cant teach my kid anything?  Yet alone call me when something happens? I was going to file and complain the superintendent  but I figured whats the point?  Its just going to fall on deaf ears.

As for the sports, I want to try get my kid into boxing or martial arts...im leaning on the boxing.  Hopefully she will take it and learn from a more positive environment rather than being surrounded by ass kissers...its taken a tremendous toll on her and I dont blame her.

Aint that the truth! Id say only 5% of the kids going to public school will amount to something in life.

I pulled my kid out.  I put my kid on a home school program, she'll be doing her studies at home and will be going to a program 1.5 days a week...plus I am implimenting my own studies for her...im going to be working on that this summer to be ready for September.

It looks like BC/Canadian schools are finally starting to catch up with the rest of the world, before elementary schools wasted 6+ years of a child's learning opportunity and just crammed the most important thing in the last 2 years of high school, causing a lot of students to fail or drop out in grade 11 and 12;  20 years before that it was even worst, the whole high school curriculum teach juvenile garbage to the students, misleading the students to get enough marks thinking they'll do well in university but failing miserably, average class score in first year there is less than 30%.  You might be wondering why I'd know this is b/c of my brother, he came over to Canada after finishing grade 7 in Hong Kong, the stuff they learned in HK was quite advance during the time, to a level he never had to studied a single math or science test during high school in Toronto and pass all of them, he didn't even took university, skipped it instead he used those 4-5 years to finish 3 masters degree, all reputable, one in security management, another in criminal psychology and a MBA.  Tbh Berry what LO is learning right now is a good thing, whether she will use it or not in life is another factor, but least they're molding her basic foundation to prepare her ahead for university.
