The Amazon produces twenty per cent of the world's oxygen, but now it's producing carbon, smog and ash..

Although less than half the fires are in Brazil, the international community is using these fires to attack Brazil's populist president..

I don't want to quote any of that, but it does have an affect on climate change because the Amazon is one of the world's biggest carbon sinks.

Amazonia and its trees are a significant source for oxygen, and major sink for absorbing carbon dioxide. The process of photosynthesis is important for life on Earth and all of those trees in the Amazon are deterrents to the growing problem of increased greenhouse gases. It is too early to determine how much carbon will be released because of current Amazon fires

Indonesia, Brazil, and Australia have much to answer for.

I have more on this topic.

On land, our very worse tragedy is taking down virgin forest. It is so bad these days, protecting the environment is a matter of life and death.

Enviro activists have blood on their hands too. And they are backed by international money. I wouldn't be surprised if they started some of the fires.

I would be surprised... I'd be devastated.

The world has turned to shit and no one has the answers.... well, they do have the answers but no one will implement them.

They need to run a campaign in the west and get as many people to plants trees and/or large shrubs in their yards and they need to do it YESTERDAY...

This is good... this is REALLY good...

In your spare time, this should be heard... and passed around.

The organizations who pretend to care about the environment cause as much damage as an erupting volcano.

I will watch the video at the bunk house.

I get it..

These people are poor and they are just trying to make a living..

Environmental activists are rich people who have no understanding towards the little people troubles.

I totally understand why they kill these activists.

I understand, but the Amazon is so important to our planet..

It's in South America, but the entire world has a stake in it's survival.

In the absence of human activities, the Amazon rainforest would be CO2 and Oxygen neutral. That is, neither a source nor sink of CO2.

How do we know this? Because the amount of carbon in a stable rainforest doesn't change (by the definition of stable), so therefore it cannot change the net amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. The carbon has to go somewhere.

These days, with human involvement, the Amazon is a net contributor to atmospheric CO2. Because we are chopping down and burning the jungle; the total amount of carbon in the Amazon rainforest is decreasing, and most of that will immediately or very soon become oxidised into CO2.

This idea that rainforests, jungles etc convert more CO2 into oxygen than they convert oxygen into CO2 is simply wrong. Stable forests and jungles do not accumulate carbon; the rate at which new trees grow and convert CO2 into Oxygen is exactly the same as the rate at which old tries die, fall over, rot and convert the carbon in their wood back into CO2.

If Google makes this claim, they are either completely wrong, or their claim is not as written.

Scientists believe that phytoplankton contribute between 50 to 85 percent of the oxygen in Earth's atmosphere.    - https://earthsky.org/earth/how-much-do-oceans-add-to-worlds-oxygen">https://earthsky.org/earth/how-much-do- ... lds-oxygen">https://earthsky.org/earth/how-much-do-oceans-add-to-worlds-oxygen

Bricktop

Precisely.

Trees are not "lungs" of the earth.

That is not to diminish their importance to the ecology of the planet, but the concept that without trees there would be no oxygen is simply erroneous.

C02 is plant food.

Over the past four decades, forests have moderated climate change by absorbing about one-quarter of the carbon emitted by human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels and the changing of land uses. Carbon uptake by forests reduces the rate at which carbon accumulates in the atmosphere and thus reduces the rate at which climate change occurs.

What about as carbon sinks?
