The propensity of Chinese companies to buy up Canadian resource operations, then bring in their own Chinese workers, along with the Communist Party of China's eagerness to use trade and investment as strategic foreign policy and espionage tools, is evident. It is time to impose a moratorium, starting today, on Chinese state-owned investments into Canada until we have completed a thorough review of the Investment Canada Act.



Ever since the Harper government changed the law to limit investments in strategic assets like the oil sands, no further review of the Investment Canada Act has been undertaken. In the intervening years, we've seen Canadians arbitrarily arrested and held in solitary confinement. We've seen the Chinese Communist Party block exports of Canadian canola, beef and pork and other commodities in contravention of international trade rules. And we've witnessed Chinese duplicity in the worst global pandemic in over 100 years.



The Chinese government is doing this in plain view, all while Justin Trudeau willfully looks the other way. Is it because he still admires China's basic dictatorship? We need to gain a better understanding of the threats and impacts that Chinese state-controlled investments represent to Canada.



I say enough is enough.  It's time to place a moratorium on all Chinese state-owned investments in Canada.

China is threatening to meddle in the upcoming U.S. presidential election as retribution for a flurry of American lawsuits seeking to hold Beijing accountable for the spread of the coronavirus.



The Communist Party "won't just strike back symbolically, but will impose countermeasures that will make them feel pain," according to the Global Times, an outlet controlled by the regime.



The threats come as outrage grows over China's handling of the coronavirus outbreak in the country and the subsequent global spread of the virus.



China also is threatening to sanction several leading Republican senators, including Tom Cotton (Ark.) and Josh Hawley (Mo.), for their efforts to hold the country responsible.



"Republicans who have been groundlessly accusing China and inflaming the 'holding China accountable' political farce will face severe consequences, sources said, noting that the aftermath will also impact the upcoming November elections, while business and trade between Missouri and China will be further soured," the paper reported.

Since mid-March, about the same time the U.S. aircraft carrier pulled into Guam, Chinese fighter jets have harassed U.S. reconnaissance aircraft "at least nine times" in the South China Sea, according to Reed B. Werner, deputy assistant secretary of defense for Southeast Asia, in an interview with Fox News.



The provocative behavior has not been limited to the skies.



Werner also cited "harassment" of the Japan-based guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin last month near a Chinese aircraft carrier strike group that was patrolling through the South China Sea.  A Chinese escort ship maneuvered in an "unsafe and unprofessional way" without being specific.



The recent confrontations between the Chinese and American militaries have not been previously reported.
