According to the chief rabbinate of Israel, I am not Jewish.

How did you get Israeli citizenship? Did one of your parents marry an Israeli?

I was born in the Soviet Union. It had ethnicity on passports. Even though my mother never had a bat mitzvah or her mother either, the state said we were Jews. That was all my family needed to immigrate to Israel. I celebrate Orthodox Christmas and I eat pork.

So that is how so many Russians became Israeli citizens.

Israel is a developed nation. Is that really all that is required to obtain permanent residency/an Israeli passport?

I am pretty sure I have a little PTSD caused by the shit I witnessed when I lived and worked in the Middle East.

I endured a violent sexual attack when I was 14 that left me with life long PTSD.

For the first few months after the attack, I couldnt even talk. I was deemed unfit for any sort of legal action and I didnt know their real names anyway. I spent the next few years in and out of mental health facilities. I was hospitalized(psych care) for 6 months as my longest

Medication doesnt work for me longer than a year. I do much better without it.  I can go into some pretty intense periods of depression and anxiety where I have to go on meds for a while. I've been good for about 6 years now.

What an ordeal. I am so sorry that happened to you.

Frood

I moved every 2-3 years growing up because of the nature of my father's work. We'd go coast to coast and back until my mother put her foot down and said it was destroying us kid's development.

We moved to our relatives town when I was 15 and my dad visited us every second weekend.... at one point he got flown in by private jet and the very small regional airport freaked out that there wasn't enough runway for it.... particularly in winter. The pilot laughed it off.... he was former military.

I had issues with my dad or the way he parented...but the way our parents managed a large family with needs, I respect that still...

My dad bought the farm in 2005.... so yes, retired in a sense...

He was a cost estimator and unofficial engineer for steel, cogeneration, nuclear, refinery plants and other large builds. He at one point was a VP for a group of 900 engineers.

He had no tertiary education and found it difficult to advance after the 90's...often being passed over for snot nosed kids in their late 20's fresh out of a masters degree. It was a case of don't get asked and don't tell....

Erica Mena

I could not have a close relationship with my dad until my mother passed away.

I can see why she felt this way now
