DeSantis needs to "mature" a bit.

I'm one of those people who firmly believe that we dont need ANY more laws passed, EVER. What we need is a civil war with millions dead.

Of course you don't, that's why you are stubbornly driving with DeSantis. If you had your way, right over the edge of a cliff, Thelma and Louise style. That tax plan of his was more or less the exact self-same tax plan offered up in the late eighties by the Labour Party in Australia... progressives in other words. And it should come as no surprise how that ended up for Aussies, not that your pie-eyed fanboi appreciation for "Do-No-Wrong-DeSantis" will let you see it.

Fact: in the early seventies, two Australian dollars was buying three Greenbacks. There were a numbe of fiscally irresponsible choices made, both by Labour and by Liberal parties, the most acute of which was the introduction of a goods and services tax where the average consumer was expected to wear increased cost of living for a full year before they could claim any of it back on tax, necessitating increased governmental welfare for the taxpaying citizens. End result? People stopped buying shit and stockbrokers voted with their portfolios. By the nineties, two Aussie dollars was lucky to buy one greenback... quite the fall in value if I do say so myself.

And it took a further twenty years for the Aussie dollar to claw its way back to parity with the US dollar, during which time the stores of wealth in the middle class were decimated. That's a forty year economic odyssey in case you weren't counting, with the average man in the street still out of pocket at the end of it. And what progressive fiscal policy did to the average Aussie, you want to do to the yanks now.

"Ahhh, but it's okay" you'll assure me, "my guy has an 'R' after his name, there's no way he would ever do that to me!" You assclown, you're coming across as blinkered as Joe's efforts to use gold coins as a personal store of wealth in the face of total economic collapse. His tax policy sucks ass harder than any unipartyist's because it is in fact an upward transference of wealth. It doesn't matter if you think you can personally ride it out, the fact is most people cannot and as such, you will be bearing the brunt of their inability to make do for the rest of your myopic life.

Meh, why the fuck am I telling you this... you DeSantis schills have been mooning after what a great guy he is all the harder while his political currency has plummeted and continues to do so. The guy is all but setting the stage to cement the US's status as a banana republic, but you do love your bananas and like any one-eyed loyalist will be squealing and otherwise chimping out how great he is when he and those that come after him are stuffing them up your wrinkly cracked ass.

Quote from: Oerdin on October 24, 2023, 11:00:55 AM...but Herman is, without question, correct.  Ron DeSantis would have made the best president of any GOO candidate.
Sit down, a unipartyist will be along shortly to adjust your unitard and feed you more of that GOO that you love so well shortly.

Funny, I said the exact same thing about Truederp when he was being positioned to run Stephen Herpes out of Wellington Street. Too naive, too ripe for being the puppet of foreign interests. Charisma alone does not necessarily assure you of a solid political hand on the tiller.

I know a lot of people are going to baulk at this, but it is my considered opinion the guy is as much a puppet as Biden clearly is. I strongly suspect that college scandal (potentially along with other things) has been used to blackmail him into policies that he otherwise might not have arrived at, were he armed with fifteen or perhaps twenty years more experience, a spine and a healthy slice of Francois Mitterand moxy to stand up and say "yeah, I fucked her... so what?" Quebecois would likely have gone nuts for that kind of attitude, even if it turned the average Canadian's stomach.

He's dancing to someone else's tune... as is Biden. His oratory skills, peerless in the wake of the lone gunman attack of the houses of parliament, now seem tired and flat... but worse than this, he is finally revealed for the schill I suspected he would become long ago.

Trouble is, with Canadian politics being as corrupt as they are, I don't hold out much hope for an improvement once you poor bastards kick him out. But I am fully expecting others to champion their particular groovy guy, and to get all grumpbum and surly when said hero turns out to be just as fucked as those who preceeded him.

I think most Liberals want Trudeau to go as most Democrats want Biden to leave as well but. like most politicians they get too comfortable too power hungry to enjoy the perks so they overstay their welcome

Some other examples are Diane Feinstein in California and Ruth Bader Ginsberg on the USSC

Trudeau reminds me if a White version of Obama. No wonder they like each other so much

I don't know what he is talling about either. If the Biden administration hadn't misused the FBI and DOJ to go after Trump, I believe DeSantis would be the nominee.

Much more likely that DeSantis would have been the nom. I said it all along, once they attacked Trump they way they did, they made him a martyr.

The whole idea was to cause a messy primary. Well, they kind of got what they were after, but it didn't have the knock on effect of burying Trump that they expected. Quite the opposite in fact.

And you know what? I was okay with DeSantis, until the house bill he signed in Israel which already is being abused. His stated tax plan came later, but only cemented my opinion that he was not a guy anyone other than someone hellbent on kicking the US to the kerb would ever want to see as POTUS. That goes for overseas observers too; the US is effectively the standard by which other nations fiscal worth is measured. Crippling the US economy in the manner DeSantis has planned would likely be a precursor to cries to decouple from the greenback and hitch the wagons to an alternate economy like BRICS.

I don't relish the idea myself, hence why I would not vote for DeSantis. The guy has done some great things, it is true. But he's also telegraphed some incredibly irresponsible ones too, ones that have far wider reaching implications than some here would care to admit.

I'm not saying you're wrong but joe six pack doesnt usually sort through the details like that. Most of my family live in Florida now and Floridians absolutely love DeSantis, mainly because he has been a bulwark against liberal rot and decay. In a world where we see degeneracy abound, DeSantis has taken a bold stand.

Where he fucked up was when he listened to his handlers and dipped his toe into "ORANGE MAN BAD" territory. He's fortunate it didnt affect his popularity in Florida much.

Agreed, and agin he's done some amazing work in that regard. However keeping one state happy is far from pleasing fifty, or even a sizeable percentage thereof.

We'll see of course, but the way the aggregated polls are on the federal stage at the point of writing, voter ambivalence for a DeSantis ticket will all but assure the Democrats a plausible "victory" in 2024. Maga populist inclined voters will desert the republicans at the ballot box just as Bernie Bros deserted the democrats in 2016. Sure, you'll see a bunch of the DeSantis faithful on the couch if Trump is on the ticket, but in a party where Grove Cleveland Mk II is creaming the combined total of every other candidate vying for in-party support, the effect is practically marginal.

And this is based on the assumption some asshole doesn't invoke war powers and scotch the 2024 election entirely. I wouldn't put it past the bastards to be honest, just as I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn DeSantis's advisors are doing their level best to yoke him to the Elite wagon on a whole lot more besides taxation policy and free speech.

Ron DeSantis has called for Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota to be expelled from Congress, denaturalized, and deported.

"Expel from Congress, denaturalize and deport!" DeSantis exclaimed in a post on X.

He made the comment when sharing a video of Omar delivering remarks in a foreign language.

A federal appeals court has issued a limited temporary block on a Florida law that bans citizens of China from buying property in the state that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said was needed to counteract the "malign influence" of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in his state.

The 11th Circuit Court of Appeals issued an order on Feb. 1 that temporarily halts enforcement of a law called SB 264, or the Interests of Foreign Countries Act, with respect to two out of five plaintiffs who sued Florida over the law, claiming unconstitutional discrimination.

SB 264 was signed by Mr. DeSantis on May 8, 2023, and it was almost immediately challenged in court by four Chinese citizens residing in Florida and a real estate brokerage firm primarily serving Chinese and Chinese American clients.
