I came across this forum based on a linked that was posted on a related site.



I have to say, it's actually quite disturbing to see so many politically incorrect statement made by people who claim not to be racist. But then again, it's not always easy to realize what you say based on various sociological factors.



Asian Canadian Forum:

For someone that claims to be a non-racist, why have a forum for "asian" only?  What does this really means? Is the forum not welcoming people with a different background, culture or race? What about people from mixed races, if you parents are "asian" and "caucasian" do you "fit" in? What is your definition of "Asian"?



Whist you might not realize it, this "small label" might be seen by others as somewhat racist.



The point I am making is that everyone is entitled to their opinion and some people may indeed make some comments that can be innapropriate or inadequate without even realizing it.



As relates to being attracted to someone with specific physical trait this is just based on personal preferences (I can't explain why I like vanilla ice cream and no I am not racist because I don't like chocolate). I strongly believe that making comments based on someone's own experience and generalizing is not always a form of racism. It is also a bit dangerous to throw the word "racism" every time someone makes a comment about their experiences that may be with someone from a different race.



Let's take an example:

Fact: In Hong Kong, I find that 80 % of the asian population is shorter than I am. That's just a fact, doesn't mean it's a stereotype.



Stereotype: In Hong Kong, I bet 80 percent of the asian population is shorter than I am". This sentence would be based on a stereotype because the person making the statement may not have been to Hong Kong and experience this for him/herslef.

This is a welcoming forum and the rules are standard on most forums.



Anyone of any race can post their thoughts one anything they wish..



Our posters are about 50% non Asian, so we certainly don't discriminate.



Asian refers to issues not a colour ban. If you go back to the welcome thread when we started you'd see that.
