Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) the Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee told reporters authorities have been able to nail down the location of man behind the bomb packages. (not sure a good idea to tip perp they are close to him at this point, methinks)



It's Florida I believe, and seems they know the actual depot

No information...EVER...is released by law enforcement agencies without careful consideration as to the consequences...and potential aid in the investigation. Media releases have become a component of law enforcement, and most journos in the crime reporting category know and understand this. It must be said that in my experience, the media have usually been perfectly accommodating with investigators in publishing material that may assist in the investigation...including bait, mistruths and prods.



I don't know about the US, but if SOME information that seems important is given out to the public, it would usually signify that they have their eye on a target...or some broad idea of the target's MO and how it may react to a bait in the media.



Perpetrators tend to panic if they see some indication that the Police are closing in. Looking for signs of panic is part of the investigation...and these days, signs of panic would include a monitoring of phone and internet activity in a specific area.



Another thing about IED terrorism is that the IED's are much easier to trace than the villains realise. The implements typically offer a number of investigative clues no matter how hard the offender tries to mask his weaponry.



That so many have been sent will almost certainly give rise to the expectation that the offender will be caught.



Unless, of course, the investigators don't want to catch him or her.

The U.S Postal Service directed investigators to Opa-locka after reviews of mail scans showed some of the devices had found their way through the massive sorting facility.



The devices — clearly aiming to shake up the political landscape just two weeks before the midterm elections — were so poorly constructed that at least one source involved in the investigation told The Miami Herald that "they could not detonate".



"The way they were constructed they were not going to go off," one law enforcement official told the Herald



Whether they were intentionally designed that way was not known.

EDIT: Mans name--Cesar Sayoc, 56 year old male (Hispanic?) former New Yorker.  He has been arrested previously for making terroristic threats.  Press conference scheduled for 2:30 eastern



Below are pictures of the alleged van.  It certainly looks like its a Trump supporter   if so, the media will use him to erase the last two years of democrat calls for violence and the hundreds of acts of vandalism, harassment, violence and attempted murder by their supporters.  This is a reichstag moment for the democrats.

The source said authorities were led to Sayoc in part through DNA evidence.



He was tracked through his cell phone, sources told CBS2.
