I got a high dollar Scotch Flight in Vegas a few years ago and I just dont like the stuff. It all has a combo flowery/peet taste I  dont like. Maybe I'll have to try a few more some time. I think they were all Glennsomethingorothers.

I wasnt much of an Irish Whisky fan either until I tried Writers Tears and Red Breast. Tullamore Dew was too much peet or whatever that distinct Irish Whisky flavor is.

I have a bottle of Paddy in the cupboard. I prefer my fifteen year old single malt Scotch.

I've never tried Paddy. It looks pretty cheap tho. Most anything below $30/bottle is pretty dicey IMO.

For example, I bought a bottle of Benchmark for $24 and it was shit. I bought Buffalo Trace for $25 and it was way better.

Anything under $19/bottle is usually best for toilet cleaning.

A while back we grabbed a large bottle of this cheap CHEAP whisky we found at the liquor store called "Old Crow". It's like 12 bucks a 5th  :crampe:

Looked forward to it all week. It was actually NOT bad at all. It was smooth and had a decent flavor.

My thing is, I like the bite and the after taste matters to me. We were NOT expecting to enjoy this whisky at all. Even still, I would never ever tell anyone "yeah go buy this" lol

We like getting stuff like that for fun lol.

We were doing this 3 month subscription where we chose a bottle of whisky/bourbon and would get decent sized samples with it.  I can't remember what it was called.

He is a writer so we definately have the Writers Tears on hand. Woodford Reserve as well.

My grandma drank 10 High and water and I would mix her drinks since I was 12 and would taste test em. My step tads brother drank Old Fitzgerald with soda (or sodee as they said in Missurah) and I drank the same down there when I could. I bet I could still drink both and they would remind me of my childhood.

My grandma always kept a bottle of blackberry brandy in her dresser drawer and I used to sneak sips. The smell of the stiff reminds me of that.

She had it for medicinal purposes, of course. And my grandmother was kind of fundi...pentecostal and raised me in that so drunkenness was very frowned upon.

Red Breast 12 Year Irish Whisky:

This shit is my GOLD STANDARD for which all other Irish Whiskeys are measured!!!

Pretty mild on the peat. Nearly no burn in the throat or when it reaches your stomach. If I was gonna get drunk as hell fast, I could slug this shit down straight!

Generally, its $70/bottle. Sometimes I can get it for $66.

If you buy this and cannot drink it, you should simply kill yourself. Thats how fucking stupid you, your life, and your very existence are. FACT!

Angels Envy

Not much on the nose. sort of basic bitch

This stuff is smooth!!!! No real burn. Clean finish. Its got some kind of smoke...almost, maybe like scotch? I cant nail it.

Has a bit of lingering after taste. Not unpleasant but not something I'd crave.

I'd buy again for the smoothness alone. The taste profile doesnt do a lot for me. I'm slightly negative, SLIGHTLY, on the taste profile. Its got a nice balance though. Its not too strong/weak start, midway, or finish.

I previously mixed this with soda and it was good. Thats probably heresy tho. I'm a pretty major heretical when it comes to mixing whiskey.

Yea, I dont like Tullamore Dew. To me, its bottom of the barrel. Writers Tears is way way way better.

I've seen Paddy's at the local Binny's. Its $21US/750ml whatever that is Canadian. Maybe I'll buy a bottle and do a head to head against Red Breast and Writers Tears.

OK, Scotch.

I bought Johnny Walker Red- preferred by Winston Churchill
Dewars White label
Macallan 12 Double Cask

This is the end of the road for Scotch Whiskey on this thread. ITS ALL SHIT!!!!!!!

YOU are fucking WRONG if you like Scotch!! Fuk YUO, fuk your pallet, fuck your taste, and fuk that fukin Herman prolly thinks Skol Vodka and Scotch are the same because they both have the same magnitude of shit taste!!!!

Just for shits:
Johnny Walker Red- shit LITERALLY tastes like the antiseptic smell I remember from being in a hospital in the 70's coupled with with the smell of latex gloves. I shit you not! Its that fucking bad! Anyone who is a nurse and knows the smell when you open a sealed surgical kit will relate. I wouldnt use JHR for ANYTHING!

Dewars White Label: The best BY FAR out of the 3. Reminds me a bit of Cutty Sark. Terrible, but not too terrible. Tastes like Scotch mixed with sub standard irish whiskey.

Macallan 12: This shit tastes like someone poured liquid smoke in it. IT BRINGS THE SMOKE! Mixed 50/50 with water, tastes like a fucking ash tray! WTF is wrong with you stupid asshole scotch drinkers? Do you hate life?

For shits and giggles, I chased this with a small sip of Jack Daniels Single Barrel Rye that I paid $60 for. Sweet Jeebus! Its sublime! It smells heavenly! The taste isnt as good as the smell but its a 6 while the 3 above are 1-1.5.

Thats enough of this scotch shit, NO MORE. BE GONE MOTHERFUCKERS!!!! DEMONS COME OUT!!!!!

Jack Daniels Single Barrel Rye

This shit is fairly new. OMG does it have a good nose! Its got a bit of burn as you'd expect from a rye. Aftertaste lingers and I'm hot a huge fan. Smooth going down. I'd sooner drink Woodford Reserve straight.

I'ma bit under the weather tonight so I made a pitcher of hot toddies with it. I have to say, it was great! Much sweeter than using Woodfords Double Oak!

I've always been intrigued at how the harshness of a rye goes away when mixed.

I wouldnt buy this again but its not bad and the smell is out of this world!!!!

Bourbon is a whiskey so this poast is allowed. I hope.

Anyway my grandpa gave me this bottle of Jim Beam way back when so it could be anywhere from 20 to 30 years old. How long does it stay good for? I'm wondering if I should drink it down before it goes bad or if I should store it longer until it's the best time.

I've drank Whiskey that was way over a decade old. As long as the cap isnt left off for a long time, I think it will last forever or until the cork rots.

When you decide to crack it open, you should drink/compare a brand new bottle for the hell of it.

Personally, I hate Jim Beam. I call it "rot gut" because it acts like poison once it hits my stomach. Some people love it tho.

So, I went to Costco with my daughter when I was in Florida recently. I bought a big bottle of 4 Roses single barrel and a big bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oak.

The Double Oak was as good as I expected, the 4 Roses was absolute shit and I instructed my son in law to GIVE that $60/bottle shit to the first asshole he could talk into it!

I also bought a bottle of Russell's Reserve 10year which was good. I've had it before. I found a bottle of Russell's Reserve 15 year but couldnt bring myself to pay $499 for it.

One day, we went to a Total Wine and the St. Augustine rep was there. He let me try most all their shit. It was all very acceptable, some even good. One bottle, cant remember which, was just so so. I recommend starting with their Straight Florida Whiskey to see if you like it and go from there.

Since my trip to Florida in mid-August, I bought a bottle of Russell's Reserve Single Barrel. DID NOT LIKE! Shit drinks a LOT hotter than its 110 proof...in fact, my JD Select Single Barrel at 130.7 proof drinks less hot!!! The Russell's 10 year is much better and smoother IMO. BTW, the 10 yr is $40 and the Single Barrel is $65. $25 more for WORSE juice!!!!

I also recently bought a bottle of Ben Holladay Soft Wheat Bourbon. Wasnt as good as the standard Ben Holladay. At $59/bottle, for either, get the regular bottled in bond.

Heaven Hill. $40/bottle. Buy it. Its good. Angels Envy $38/bottle. Buy it. Its decent and smooth.

Bought a bottle of Old Forester 1920. The last bottle impressed me. This one? Not so much. Maybe I'll try it again in a year.

Oh, Uncle Nearest..... they resurrected this brand as an homage to the black slave that taught Jack Danies how to make whiskey. Its not worth writing home about. I'd rather drink Old Fitzgerald.

Widow Jane. Not worth the money. PASS!

Michters anything...its ok. They have a Sour Mash that I really like in a High Ball!

Jeffersons, FUK THAT SHIT!!!!!!

Yellowstone, I POURED A BOTTLE DOWN THE DRAIN!!!!!!

Chatanooga Whiskey. DID NOT PREFER!!! Cost twice what its worth.

Bulleit Bourbon, The SOLE reason I bought a bottle last year is a rumor they were anti gay. It was decent but not one of my go to's.

Knob Creek, its not my jam but its very decent. No real sweetness compared to other whiskeys.

Makers Mark anything, ESPECIALLY 46. WAY too sweet for me!!! Its not Southern Comfort, but still, way too sweet! Like diabeetus sweet!

Ezra Brooks. Stay the fuck away from that shit. BAAAAAAD!

Redneck Riviera... lightweight swill. I like John Rich's politics but his whiskey? Not so much!

If you order whiskey over the bar in Oz...you'll get a bourbon;
you want an actual scotch...you'll need to specify it specifically or refer to the brand name.

The only bourbon I enjoy is JD.

As for actual scotch: Chivas regal, J&B, Johnny Walker. My wife bought me a JW Blue label for my birthday once, and it was the silkiest scotch that I've ever tasted. Beautiful but at $250+ a bottle, very rich for your average drink. I don't enjoy wasting money on expensive drinks that I literally piss out after half an hour or so.

I tried Conor McGregor's Proper Twelve blended Irish whiskey but wasn't overly impressed. I think I had one shot on the rocks...the rest I had to mix with dry ginger ale.

I have heard that too here. If my girlfriend and I go out, it's usually to a sports bar and I drink draft beer.

Quote from: Shen Li on September 10, 2024, 11:09:03 PMI thought the Imperial Palace closed.

It morphed. First it became the Quad, now its the Linq. Still the same-ish shithole.

It managed to become less of an attraction than it was when it was still called the Imperial Palace. The elevators in that place are the absolute worst! You'll wait forever for one and when it gets to you, it'll be packed!

They used to have a car collection/museum that was always great to kill time, now thats gone too. The rooms have always been teeny tiny and pretty much a dump. Hash House A Go Go is the only place I'd consider eating at in the hotel and I dont know if I'd ever hang out at any of the bars. The place is a dump.....well, it was always a dump, but now its a dump without any character.

The last time I stayed there was 2008 because my boss paid for the rooms. I doubt I ever will again. Really, the only attractions in the area are in the promenade space between the Linq and Flamingo. In-N-Out Burger and the High Roller Ferris Wheel are down there.

These days, I have about 4 choices in hotels:
1. Bellagio-this place is the bomb! My wife and I love it and since my mom gets the VIP treatment and has a concierge that she talks to regularly, she gets free rooms and a huge discount on our rooms. You should see the free suite they give my mom! There goes my inheiritance!  :crampe:  Plus, she gets to check in through the VIP lounge where they have their own semi private elevator and they drag us 2 poors along with them.
2. Caesars Augustus Tower- it has a fantastic view no matter where your room is. I like to face the Bellagio Fountains. When we stayed there last, I'd go get the rental car and have my mom, step dad, and wife meet me at the door at the bottom of the tower where you can drive right up to the door. Super convenient. Then we'd drive wherever and valet park. My mom is in her 70's so insisting she let me pick her up and valet everywhere keeps her from getting worn out and cranky.
3. Treasure Island- Not a great place but they have BOGO nights where I get a huge 1000 sq ft suite for about $150/night. Its also walking distance to the Fashion Show Mall.
4. Paris- Has several things to do like the Eiffel Tower and some decent shows usually. Too many faggits for me to stay there much tho. Mon Ami Gabi has patio seating where you can eat and watch the Bellagio Fountains as well as the freaks. The Eiffel Tower Restaurant is pretty awesome too.

I used to really like Luxor but it's become a dirty and broken down dump. They need to shut it down and remodel. The inclinator/elevators are a cool ride up to the rooms. My mom tells me that when it opened in the 90's, it was way cooler!

I think I want to stay at the Fountainebleu soon. I hear its cool.

I bought a bottle of Knob Creek 9 year Friday after watching a review on The Bourbon Junkies.

I dont like it. It has a lot of burn everywhere! front, back, cheeks. Its spicy and drinks way higher than its 100 proof. By comparison, my bottle of Jack Single Barrel Select Barrel Proof at 130 proof isnt hot or overly spicy at all. The Knob Creek drinks like astringent. Will not buy again. I'd give it a 5 out of 10 and thats generous.

Smooth sailing. Its weird though reminds a lot of Crown Royal just stronger(50% alc.)with vanillay and pepper undertones to it. I've been gifted it a few times from me older bro but this was the first time I actually got it meself. I'd give it a strong 7/10. Its 45 bucks here in Toronto and well worth the try.

Looks like its a Jim Beam product like this Knob Creek I just bought. I might try it since its $24.99 here. I'm not a big fan of anything Jim Beam related but I can always pour it out!!!!

J&B Rare is one of my go-to Scotch Whiskeys. I don't know if you're aware, but it's actually a blend of 42 whiskeys. It costs around AU$50.00 a bottle (700ml) so mid-rangeish in price.

Use it in a Don Pedro or just put a shot on top of ice cream in a bowl. It's awesome.

A Don Pedro is a famous South African drink that you have after a meal. Mostly vanilla ice cream and a splash of whiskey. You can also add Kahlua.

Many have said to me that they'll never mix the two...and I have converted them all. Just try it:

Put a decent serve of vanilla ice cream in a blender, add a splash of whiskey and blend well. Add some shaved chocolate on top for some garnished extra flavour. (Optional)

In a restaurant, I get the bar person to make it for me at the end of a main course, in place of desert.

Tip-top!

avatar_Lab Flaker, I made that drink last night. It tastes good, no question about that. But, it is not the type of drink you have and then drink some premium beers after. Because we went to a sports bar after making them, I drank less than half of mine.

No...you don't go back to beer after that. Wine or spirits won't clash.

It's the same principle with regard to chocolate. You can eat chocolate whilst drinking spirits or red wine...but you can't eat chocolate and drink beer at the same time. It's not right on the palate.

Tonight, I had the opportunity to try several allocated whiskeys and even purchased a couple.

I was able to try a dram of Colonel E.H. Taylor Single Barrel. Its pretty good stuff! Sweet, smooth, easy to sip. A bit light on taste but I can see why its allocated. Made by Buffalo Trace. I'd give it an 8/10. Paid about $20 for it. Cheaper than buying the whole assed bottle for $115.

Second, I got a dram of Russell's Reserve 15 year for $40. Yes, $40. Buying a bottle of this will cost you between $400 and the moon IF you can find it. The flavor is freaking awesome! Its has some high proof burn and I found adding just a little bit of water made it much more drinkable. I'd pay $200 for it but no more. I may never drink it again but I can at least appreciate the hype.

About a week ago, I saw a bottle of Knob Creek 18 year at a Binny's for about $190. No way was I going to buy that, especially since its a Jim Beam mash and they are notoriously not sweet whatsoever. So, I bought a bottle of 12 year.

Let me say, that shit is woody AF!!! I do not recommend! I spent about $75 on it and wouldnt buy another at $40. I'll keep it around for anyone who's curious.

As some of you may have already figured out, my personal jam is Jack Daniels. I like nearly everything they make. JD Black is the best coke mixer, bar none. Gentleman Jack is right up there too.

Today, I picked up a bottle of 12 year which is somewhat unobtanium. I dont even know if I will open it but I hear its only bested by the Coy Hill Release! So far, I've got a small collection of unopened harder to get stuff like Sinatra Select, Single Barrel Rye, and now the 12 year.

I also bought a bottle of Old Forester 1924 and yea, I paid too much. Old Forester is owned by Brown-Foreman, the same owners of Jack Daniels and Woodford Reserve, and it shows. All of these brands are my favorites! The 1924 is good, not as good as what I've seen in the reviews though. I've also had the 1920 and I think its a decent value while the 1924 is overpriced. Oh well, I have a bottle now and it should last me for a year. I might like that E.H. Taylor better tho.

One of the reviews I watched a while back said if you mix 80% Wild Turkey Single Barrel Barrel Proof with 20% Russell's Reserve 10 year, you get an approximation of Russell's Reserve 15 year thats $400/bottle........
THATS A HARD NOPE! I now have both of these in stock now tho!

I like the RR 10 year. Its a good value at $35-$40 bottle for sure. It has a pretty decent nose, not overly complex tho. This will sound weird, but it has a bit of lacquer thinner smell to it. For those who didnt paint cars back in the 80's, lacquer paint had a pleasant smell to it and the thinner had a sweet smell to it. The taste is pretty sweet and a bit smokey. Very smooth. There's also a faint hint of something that reminds me of a good Irish Whisky like Writers Tears or Red Breast. The more I've been sipping on it an analyzing it, the more it reminds me of Writers Tears Copper Pot.

The WT SB Barrel Proof is $55 to $60 and it's got a fantastic nose!It tastes pretty good too. I think it's fair priced at $60 but it could use a bit more sweetness to combat just a bit of bitterness on the finish. It has a pleasant tobacco like taste. It doesnt have anything in the taste that reminds me of Irish Whisky. This has a pure American Bourbon taste!

EAGLE RARE!

This is another expression from Buffalo Trace. Its close to E.H. Taylor Single Batch. Comes in at 90 proof. Has a nose heavyness with more flavors and ethanol smell than Taylor even though Taylor is 100 proof. Better smell IMO. Has a decent aftertaste that lingers for a long time. Finish like just a bit of pipe tobacco. The Taylor Single Batch has a bitterness that the Eagle Rare has much less of. The smell of the EHTSB is lighter and not as complex. I have to say I'll probably pass on the Taylor in favor of the Eagle Rare in the future.

It's not like I won't have a bourbon on the rocks if I go out somewhere. I just stopped putting a bottle on my cupboard shelf because it was too easy to have a shot or five every night. ;)

Its best if you stick with only top shelf shit as you age. I'd recommend Old Forester 1924, E.H. Taylor Single barrel, or a top shelf Wild Turkey Product.....either Rare Breed or Russel's Reserve 15 year.

Or one can moderate what one imbibes according to their wants and desire as time goes by.  I do know that my mornings are easier now I'm lighter on the intake the night before.

Now I'm hungry from breakfast tomorrow ...

I've found its best to fortify yourself with zinc, magnesium, and potassium if you're gonna drink hard! Plus, if you buy the tippy top shelf shit like Lokmar does, you dont suffer from the side effect that you get from the cheap shit.

Trust me. Ima fukin proffesssional!

I like light lagers.  Ales are OK and I like some hard ciders. Stouts and dark beers suck.  I do like me some of the micro-brewery products around, like Two Brothers up the river from me in Aurora.  They brew a kick ass honey weiss.  But for the most part, I just stock my fridge with some common swill.

You should try to be romantic with your husband.

Buy him some flowers. Men actually love that. Write him a mushy letter. Be cheesey.

We lay in bed and talk about politics or recipes. We have an intimate relationship yes but we are also in our mid 40s and I get up every week day at 5am for work.

Not quite the porno you have playing in your mind, but thanks for weeding out a tongue and cheek comment that everyone else understood as humor.

What was it, the part about having a nice evening on nye with just me and him or how I said I better shave for it? What was the problem with what i said?

I've noticed your lack of offense when men overstate or talk about their lives. Are you offended when Lokmar openly talks about busting nuts raw in his wife all night?

Are you offended when Biggie talks about laying the spit shine on his woman's ovaries?

When Oerdin tells of his Tinder adventures and the 25 year old latina he gets to plow like a cornfield? Are you lecturing and berating him over his divorce?

 Etc?

I'm not offended by any of that.

I think you allow more room for men to post as they wish but believe women should follow a bunch of other rules.

You do not get to police how I interact with people I have interacted with since 2008 and they aren't going to take you seriously when you are telling them I'm "exactly like Murdock". That is fucking wild. Like you really have to stretch to say that.   :Doh2:

Dove's idea of being romantic with her husband, fucking a fellow low life on forums. :crampe: You are a class act. You missed ur calling. You should have been a marriage counsellor, but you dropped out of high school. Poor Gene, I felt sorry for the fool.

Shen, I worked for Penthouse. If I wanted to "escape a life of poverty" on my knees I would be a wealthy woman right now.

In fact I've rejected men that YOU likely would have sold your soul for.

I'm smoother, sexier, smarter, more exciting and more likable than you are.

It just cracks me up when jealous forum women who can barely pull the male attention they seek..on a forum....project this hard.

I really really doubt you afford your lifestyle on YOUR income. I'm willing to bet your check is the "fun" money while your husband handles all the living expenses.

Not that I think anything is wrong with that, but you do and that's just funny and sad.  You are absolutely living off a man and mad about it.

So, my wife and I went to Wild Turkey Distillery a few days ago. Its very industrial...not what I was used to from visiting Jack Daniels.

Tried Russell's Reserve 13yr. OMG!! It was FANTASTIC!!! Much more drinkable than the 15yr everyone raves about. The 15yr is great but its proof is hazmat! I'd for realz buy an entire case of the 13 yr!!!  Its that good!

BTW, While the Wild Turkey Campus is like visiting an iron smelting site, the visitors/guest area is top shelf!!

After we spent the night in Frankfort, My wife and I went to Buffalo Trace Distillery. The damned line was like going to a Disney World Ride! Real stupid!!! We got there about 33 minutes before opening (8:27 am Saturday) and the line was almost enough for me to say eff it! They give you an arm band and tie it to your I.D. so if you get a limited release, you get a 90 day ban. No limiteds so I got a Blantons (Letter "N" as if IGAF). Over paid for it but whatever. Also got some Glenn's. (whiskey drinking glass)

Wild Turkey Private Selection 101 proof purchased at Wild Turkey. States it was bottled for sale at the visitors center in Sept. 2024.

The nose reminds me almost exactly of Russell's Reserve. Drinks hot AF!!! You cant taste anything but the heat. Mixed with soda, it has a bitter aftertaste. WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN! As an alternative, buy WT Rare Breed.

I've got a bottle of E.H. Taylor Small Btach I bought at Meijer's in Springfield, IL for $40 to compare with the bottle of Blantons I bought at Buffalo Trace for $69. The Blantons is SHIT!!!! I would buy E.H. Taylor at $80/bottle before I'll EVER buy Blantons again!!!

Blantons is much harsher than E.H. Taylor. I'm disappointed as this was the best they had at the Buffalo Trace Distillery Store that day. Sad!

Old Forester in downtown Louisville has a 117 Series from Warehouse I when we went there last week. Its $65/375ml bottle. A bit pricey but WTH, I bought it. Its about like 1920 but a bit different but not in a stupendous way. I wouldnt buy again. I'm glad I did buy it tho.

My sweet wife not only bought me a bottle of distillers series but also a 4 bottle set which included double/double oak in a special wood box for nearly 400! I dont know when I'll be breaking the seal on any of these...its nearly like me getting that George T Stagg!

Last minute trip to Jack Daniels on Monday.....

Bought 1-1L bottle of JD Black, 2, 1L bottles of JD McLaren (same stuff really), 1-1L Jack/Apple, 1- Gentleman JD 750ml in the Christmas Engraved Bottle, and a pint of the latest distillers series in charred maple.

Let me just say, I've bought 2 of the distillers series so far and they are both shit. What a fucking disappointment! The JD Black is better and costs LESS!

In summary, my impromptu whiskey trail adventure was interesting...but delivered a lot of disappointment on the whiskey I found/purchased.

On a side note, we visited where Daniel Boone and his wife Rachel are buried in Frankfort, Ky. What a fantastic and interesting cemetery. It overlooks the state capitol on a hill and the headstones are very elaborate. Its only a few minutes from Buffalo Trace so I highly recommend it!

One night he told me he realized I wasn't "normal" and I have more issues than Playboy because I'm 5'1 and 125 pounds and I've been knocking back entire bottles keeping up with him for years and he didn't think about it until he went to Michigan State (he has a few degrees) and went out drinking with college people and the girls would be buzzed or drunk after 2 or 3 drinks.

Wait a year or two Eddie and Dove will blow you or any guy for $20. She will either screw up her current relationship who is one of the guys she cheated on her husband with or more likely he will dump her useless 4 kids to 4 baby daddies hairy white ass to the curb.
