Russia and the United States shook hands today on an agreement to resume full diplomatic relations and establish Ukraine peace talks, cementing an extraordinary reversal of international policy under Donald Trump's presidency.

The talks in Saudi Arabia – unthinkable even six months ago – were aimed as a step toward ending Russia's war in Ukraine after Mr Trump ordered officials to begin negotiations.

Mr Rubio said the sides agreed as a first step to re-establish full staffing of their respective embassies, reversing the expulsions that followed Mr Putin's invasion.

He said those moves had "really diminished our ability to operate in Moscow" and that Russia would say the same about its mission in Washington. "We're going to need to have vibrant diplomatic missions that are able to function normally," he said.

Trump labeled Zelenskyy a "dictator without elections" and pointed out Ukraine's financial abuse of American tax dollars.

Trump also pointed out that while many heads of state have branded Zelenskyy a hero, the Ukrainian president has failed to hold a democratic election since sparking the conflict in 2022.

"On top of this, Zelenskyy admits that half of the money we sent him is 'MISSING,'" Trump added. "He refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden 'like a fiddle.' A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left."

Trump noted that up until his second term, none of the parties involved have managed to move closer to a peace treaty.

I don't see Russia ever agreeing to Ukraine becoming part of NATO.
If the Russians wanted a NATO country on their border they could have simply taken all of Ukraine and they'd have gotten NATO countries on their border, too (actually 4 of them I think). Strategically it would make more sense for Russia to turn Ukraine into a country-sized military buffer zone than to let NATO have it.

Since the end of WW2 'Murica and its vassal states ("allies") have been obsessed with crippling and subjugating first the Soviet Union and now Russia itself.

It started with downplaying Russia's role in defeating the nazis and pretending it was 'Murica alone who "saved the world" from Hitler and Japan when the USA's legitimate biggest contribution to the war manifested as two horrific war crimes against civilians that ushered in the atomic arms race that plagues humanity to this day.

The 'domino theory' excuse for dragging us into never ending wars and conflicts to "oppose communism" has been more effective than it had any right to be and I attribute that to the ambivalence and gullibility of a mercilessly propagandized 'Murican populace.

The world described by corporate infotainment bobbleheads doesn't exist. It never did. Their narratives always have and still do serve only one purpose: to manufacture consent for imperialism and war.

I've been waiting literally decades for a critical mass of people to wake up on that score and although we aren't there yet by a long shot for the first time it's beginning to look like it could actually happen.

President Zelensky is saying he is prepared to resign. He is deeply unpopular in his country, so he is probably trying to arrange a deal where he is not prosecuted after he leaves office.

I bet his poll numbers are pretty high right now.

Trump announced he's had serious discussions with Putin about both an economic development agreement between the United States and Russia and ending the war.

"I am in serious discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia concerning the ending of the War, and also major Economic Development transactions which will take place between the United States and Russia. Talks are proceeding very well!" Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social media account on Feb. 24.

Speaking with reporters at the White House on Feb. 24, Trump said an economic partnership with Russia could see the United States gain access to some of the country's rare earth minerals.

The Trump administration is already engaged in separate talks with Ukraine, for a deal in which the United States could gain access to Ukraine's rare earth minerals and other natural resources as compensation for past and future support for Ukraine.

Marco Rubio will probably be one of the very best secretaries of state.
